Okay call me cheap, I prefer frugal. My 35 Remington sizing dies, both the FL and neck leave the necks of my cases too tight to take a gas checked cast bullet without shaving lots lead and risking deforming the shoulders. Answer is a expanding die. I read that a 357 mag die will work if adjusted properly. Only I bought the Lee die set which gives the pistol cases another sizing as they go through the die. Obviously the 35 rem case wouldn't fit. Next solution is to order an expanding die that will fit but that runs against my ....... err .... "FRUGAL" nature. Well beer is a great thought provoker so I opened up a Peroni and gave the problem at bit of contemplation. The room I was in was also a factor. Great place to think. Hey, I have two bullet seating dies in 35 Rem. Can I make one into a custom made expanding die? Out came the files and abrasive cloth and presto a die that expands the case mouth just enough to let the bullet seat without the aforementioned problems. Total cost was a used 3/8 bolt and 1/2 dozen Peroni's.

Excellent mate!

I love improvisation, specially if it saves a few bucks to buy more beers. Very Happy

MacD, you really have to be resourceful up in the North Country! Rotors for target gongs, modified bolts for dies. What's next on your list?

Well done Mac. I was going to suggest buying a set of cheap .357 dies and "taxing" the neck expander from them.

Now...how much did you save, and how many Peroni 6 packs will it buy mate? Laughing

I like it! I make a lot of "accesories" for my gear too. Even if it doesn't save me any money it is fun to accomplish something well done.

So, WELL DONE Mac!
