I watched live today and as expected it was a media circus packed with victims, victim's parents, four children that wrote heartbreaking stories to Obama begging him to do something about gun violence and the usual anti-gun crowd. As Obama spoke Uncle Joe stood to the side nodding and grinning like a buffoon as usual. He explained that congress needs to work on his proposals which were a rehashing of the AWB, a ban on magazines larger than 10 rounds and background checks for every sale. He also added his own list of 23 executive orders that he signed today.
here's that list:
1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.

2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.

3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.

4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.

5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.

6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.

7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.

8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).

9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.

10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.

11. Nominate an ATF director.

12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.

13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.

14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.

15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.

16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.

17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.

18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.

19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.

20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.

21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.

22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.

23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

It was also announced that Freedom Watch will be suing the White House task force that led to the gun control proposals offered by President Barack Obama Wednesday.

Well I'll be buggered...he didn't include a pay rise in there for Whammy Obammy and himself...because of all the extra work him and his Demi-God in Training - Whammy Obammy, put in planning ways to destroy the American way of life.

The only parts that mean anything at all is:
a plea for doctors to turn in their patients when they are already mandated to report anyone who is dangerous to themselves or others or are in the process of commiting numerous crimes.
Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers which is what the NRA recommended only the NRA called them what they are, Armed guards.
And last, develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education which is one other thing the NRA advised.
The rest is recommendation and alerts to the wall - nothing will be done because they will be too busy to get anything done on it.
Oh, and appoint a BATFE leader which he has been avoiding for a long time.
All those words to say, "lets consider what the NRA said but not say it out loud and I'll do my job that I have been ignoring."
I am really impressed.(sarchasm dripping from my lips)

I guess I expected him to be much more harsh (as did a lot of people), lets see what the anti's think. He may have snowed them into thinking he's a pretty smart guy (again) and let up on the damaging rhetoric. The NRA made many of the same recommendations (as PaulS said) and as an after thought maybe the NRA should have been more mamby-pamby and lucid about it. It may have been more appealing to the admin? The regime really doesn't seem too bright. As they've shown in other circumstances their approach is awkward and stumbling, leaving you with the feeling they're not on the same page. I see nothing about this approach that makes me feel safer in the urban environment, from random acts of violence or well planned ones. Most of what he has mandated is already in place to some degree, just not enforced. I'll be more apt to want to protect myself from governmental encroachment on my civil liberties and rights and will carry more often to ensure it. I think he has done another great service to the gun industry and plan on investing in Ruger right away. Smith and Wesson stocks jumped 4.5% after his speech the other day and Ruger stocks have soared up 500% since Obama was elected. He should be well protected by the NRA, wonder if he'll be on the A list.
