Aussie temperature officially goes OFF THE CHART!!

54 Celsius or 130 Fahrenheit today at center of Oz!
another few degree, and you can cook roast nicely without oven.

on our radio it was told that overthere they were all adviced to keep drinks ready at their doors, in case they had to run...

always handy to know when you're in the fire-brigade Smile

It is very nasty in some places Aloys...and you are right mate...always handy in the Fire Brigade...but unfortunately they are the first one called out to fight the fires.

Yep,
Its getting nasty in places.
My ex wife had fire up to her back door and some of her sheds fire damaged, the house survived.
Her mother who lived just down the road and on a beach, lost everything, she got out with her life and her cat, stood on the beach and watched her house burn.
She and I never saw eye to eye, but she didnt deserve this.
That was south east of Forcett Tasmania at Connellys marsh, the whole area has been burnt.

Well after 16 years of not being on the xmas card list, I'm not all that concerned.
I shipped her daughter back 16 years ago, that was the only unwanted thing I had at the time.
Shes 2300 km south of me and I'm not really in any position to help.
She has a lot of family in Tasmania and luckily she was insured, still not a nice thing to happen and she's now got to rebuild and shes near 70.
Looks like its going to be at least a month before they get power back into that area.

What cracks me up is that most Aussie native trees and shrubs require fire to clear the land to allow new growth, every man and his dog wants to live semi rural surrounded by trees and wonder why natural phenomena such as lightening starts fire which burn out of control.
Actually the trees and shrubs themselves are full of oils and are really combustible.
There was a kiwi in Aussie who built a house out in the sticks, cut a 200 meter surround on the property - got prosecuted - but when a major bush fire came through his house wasn't damaged.

Look after yourselves and keep cool....yeah right!

Radar,
all true.
40,000 years of the indigenous population burning off everywhere stopped around 150 yrs ago, now we have flammable "wilderness" everywhere.
The greenys dont like burning off, causes massive carbon dioxide production, and make the place smell bad and look untidy so they wont allow it.
Funny how they all slunk back into their holes after the devastating Canberra and Melbourne fires which collectively killed over 200 people.
This country needs controlled burning off especially after 2 years of flooding rain or you end up in the situation we now have (again)every 3 to 7 years.
Totally stupid.

Totally correct Pete. The indigenous have forgotten more about how to manage the bush they we will ever know.

You are right about the Greenies too mate...they are so one eyed it ain't funny...stupid part about it is they don't look at the big picture, just a small part of it and say "We have to do anything and everything we can to preserve that ..." FOOLS !!!!

Im interested in the "Heat Dome" theory the Weather boffins are using about the contained heat over the continent.
Even a tropical cyclone (hurricane to the yanks) out western australia isn't budging it.
Saw an awesome picture in a newspaper showing the two systems and the distinct delineation. Way cool photo.
50 Degrees - tu meke!
No wonder theres a pub on every corner........
