I have bin out every day this past week . All I have seen is yearlings , no bucks or decent size doe's. Finally saw a nice doe at 80 yards. Hit her right above the shoulder I don't think I have ever seen a deer drop that fast, never twitched. I used my Rem 788 .308 with the 150 grain nosler Accubond.

Nosler sure kills, but what about meat losses? Did your bullet fragmented?

Punched straight through. Shoulder shots are hard on the meat . As long as I stay off the shoulder noslers don't do bad as far as loosing meat.. The ballistic tip is a tad bit harder on meat though..

That 788 is something isn't it. I went back to it this year to take my moose. One shot at a running animal and he hit the ground like he was body slammed. I love that gun.

I had a carbine once but I sold it to my nephew. I wish I had kept it as it shot tighter groups than the ones I have with 22" tubes. The 243 I have does shoot 1" groups but I really have no real use for it, just had to have it when I saw it.

spinal colume hit? or maybe just the shockwave interupting nerve function would be my guess for a high shouder hit. of did you hit her between the shouder blades from above? that sure is an impressive place to hit.

I wish you'd chase those deer a tad westerly. This weekend was my last chance to get one and I ended up with a Thanksgiving cold that won't go away. I stayed home and made some bread instead. I'll put the recipe on here, it's black bread, sort of pumpernickle and would go great with venison.

I have wondered where you've been and why you aren't out leading the forum with harvest of venison. Congrats!
