I'd like to get my wife a recoil pad for her 870, for Christmas was wondering what people recommend. I did some googling and it seemed like the Remington Supercell is mighty popular. Suggestions?

Limbsaver makes a nice pad.

a morgan adjustable is a good pad and allows you to make it a custom fit. mostly seen on the clay range but worth the weight in donkey doo doos out hunting too. otherwise any soft pad suits me, most are too hard by far.

I believe that Limbsaver makes the Remington pad. They really work well! I have several now after trying one on my Rem 700 .35 Whelen. I replaced the pads on my Encore .50 ML and Marlin 1895 .45-70 with Limbsavers and it was a big improvement.

They also make shirts and vest with a pouch to drop in a gel pad, one advantage to this is you can use it on any gun.

I use these on my highpower rifles and shotguns.

I put a KickEez on my 870. I have Pachmayr Decelerator pads on my Trap and Skeet guns, and I have Limbsaver pads on my magnum rifles. I'm happy with all of them.

Especially with shotguns, the stock fit is very important.

In my experience, any of the mentioned brands will do a good job. As you may know most aftermarket pads come over sized and will need to be fitted to the butt stock and possibly the stock shortened to match Mrs. C's length of pull. I would recommend taking the 870 to a good gunsmith if you have never installed a recoil pad. It's usually not a very expensive or hard install. Without the proper tools, fitting pads can be a real nightmare... plus good pads can be a bit pricy to ruin. I'll be more than happy to check my inventory. I may have one in stock that would work nicely on an 870 (at a family discount of course). If we lived closer I would even be happy to do the installation.

Here is my 444 Marlin with a Limbsaver pad I installed last week.

Just for fun... Here is one of the adjustable Morgan pads like Elvis was talking about. Without measuring an 870 stock it may not be a proper fit.

The existing harder rubber pad on her gun is already over an inch thick so I'm not concerned with LOP changing too much.

One thing that confuses me is in the 870's, it seems there is a difference between the Express stocks and the Wingmaster stocks. Most pads are for either synthetic or "wood" stocks, but I see people with Express 870's complain they dont fit and recommend the "Grind to fit" pads.

I'm still kicking this around. I guess the next step is to remove her pad, and trace it out then see if I can find something thats close. I know some pad mfgs have PDF files you can print to see if what model pads fit different guns.
