Yes but Bloomberg's body gaurds all have guns.

Mind you he'll still probably be reelected if he ran, NYC's population as a whole must be a few notches down the intelligence belt to keep electing the people they do.

We just got power back last night, here in my area of PA. and I'm very grateful for that. A bit of an inconvenience, but nothing compared to the trouble others are experiencing. After what I've seen, I feel very lucky indeed. I've been working 16 hour days on the New Jersey coast trying to get the railroad line back up and the devastation there is horrendous. I'm sure by now most of you have seen the pictures. The smell of fuel oil and raw sewage is everywhere. There are huge lines for gas in North Jersey where there is a station open. The Coast Guard held the tankers off the coast due to damage in the major gas refineries and the ports in Linden, N.J.. Many stations have gas and no power. Many others have power and no gas. Police are at all gas stations that are open to keep the peace. There's no place to get a meal or even a cup of coffee in the area I'm working. There are stories of looting in some areas and the police are restricting access to those areas. We have to pass through check points to get in. When I got to work on Wednesday there was one railroad bridge with two large boats and a container on it's deck. Another of the bridges got struck by a runaway tug which then sunk. I was near a marina today and saw about 100 boats stacked like firewood on the high ground nearby. Many others sunk. All were totaled.

wtf wow-does'nt anybody in jersey know what generators are for and how to use them?I live at 1000ft ASL and have 3 on stand by-just for the trees that fall on power lines and the occasional drunk that takes out a power pole!People in the East for the most part as so dependant on each other,I saw that when stationed in virginia in 70's.Come to think about it I need to get a couple more cans of gas today-the 55 gallons on hand might run short for the tractor, bronco's ,chain saws, and generators!Oh yes and more propane-for when the wood supply runs out!Prepping for the future! The people in most cities of this country haven't a clue as to survival in a crisis of any kind. I bet most people in cities have, at most, 3 days of food and necessities. Hence the raiding of supper markets.

TRBLSHTR...Are you a "Prepper"? Just sooos you don't feel bad. I am.

Nothing wrong with a little preparation, even here in NZ. I got enough for at least a week.... including food, meds, camping gear in case house is buggered and oh yeah Firearms with plenty of ammo.
My sister lives in Wellington (capital) which is built on the main earthquake fault line of NZ - its a bit like the san andreas fault and she has bug-out bags for whole family and she's totally against firearms - thats where I tell her that she's got it wrong and they need some form of defense.

I am too.. And I'm glad that you my friends are too.

Member of a few survivalist forums, I am not as hard core as some.
Coming from 3rd world country preparing indeed is a way of life.

Heck, I even sells mylar bags for food storage on ebay, and made you tube videos on storing food.

Has anyone stored a years supply of food and ammunition?

A survivalist and a Prepper are two different things.

A survivalist learns how to survive in the wild.

A prepper stores large amounts of food and wares for the "shtf" scenario.

I'm both as I already know how to survive in the wild, but would rather survive in my home.

Actually Bushy I guess Im more survivalist than prepper, I can live off the land and look after myself in more ways than one, I don't have years of food but I'm sure I can access that stuff if needed. Unfortunately with my role I would probably be called back and used as militia if TSHTF. Actually that could work in my favor....

The electric supply in these coastal areas of New Jersey are so redundant that they hardly ever, if ever, have lost power previously. If one feeder goes down the power is rerouted through another feeder. In this case everything went down. The best prep a lot of them could do was to runaway. If you want to live beachfront, you have to be ready for the ocean to reclaim your property.
Personally I'm giving thought to buying another generator as a backup to the one I have. I just hate to waste money on another generator that could be used to buy another gun. Confused

I used to teack "Urban Survival" classes in Seattle. Not the typical "survivalist" classes all about guns but it was how to go about getting a decent job, how to be prepared for an emergency - earthquake, wind sunami, etc. and yes there was a short section on how to defend your stuff and life. I also covered a bit of wilderness survival techniques like preparing and starting a fire, how to make a shelter, how toput together a good first-aid kit and the many uses of a triangular bandage. How to forage for the tame ducks in the lake and set squirrel snares, what veggies were where and how to harvest and prepare them, and simple box traps.

Had a few "survivalists" in the classes who thought all they needed was an AR-15 and a few magazines full of ammo to get what they needed. when they found out that half the households in Seattle were gun owners they quieted right down.

The last emergency we had in Seattle, before I moved, was a snow and ice storm that took out the power in my neighborhood for a little over a week. I wheeled my generator around to the neighbors to keep their freezers and fridges cold and at a couple places we tied it into the furnace to get the house warm. At my house we had the fire place going with more than enough wood to stay warm, alcohol lamps to light the place and I used the snow to make a fridge. I used the generator to keep the freezer cold and my camp stove to cook food and heat water. My wife and I really enjoyed it.

A survivalist must remember that me and a thousands of other people will be hunting game for the table...To the point of extintion. Then what...Oh...I know...Attack me and try to get my supplies. Not a good idea...

Kinda remids one of the grasshopper and the ant.

Ah yes Paul...If you are prepared for bad times it's not all that bad. During the ice storm of a few years ago we lost power for a week...It wasn't all that bad. Stayed warm and ate well.

I think the word "survivalist" has been corrupted by the media, similar to the word "shooter".

Personally for me the interpretation is
Survivalist are those who will have higher chance of survival in whatever situation they find themselves in, survivalist is a state of mind.
Prepper are those who will attempt to prepare for all contingency that life may throw at them, prepper is the physical manifestation of survivalist.

In this situation, many didn't do simple things like get their gas tanks filled or get extra food an water when there was plenty of notice.

I'm actually more worried about the city folk, after depleting what meager supplies they have, migrating to the country. Hummm. Guess What?

Exactly Bushy...that is what will happen. I had a mate ask me what my plan was if everything went pear shaped...I said, "Head for the bush. I can live off the land and survive out there without having to worry too much about a million people preying on one another." His reply was..."how many of the million have exactly the same idea." Hm...good point. The unfortunate part about when the SHTF time comes is you will probably use more ammo on self defence than you will on harvesting food...unless you go cannibal and decide to eat "long pig".

My mate is a preppie and he has home made ration packs (MRE) that he has put together with his vacuum sealer, enough handloaded ammo start and finish WW III, and a method of conserving valuables that can become currency if needed.

Me...I got all the camping gear I will ever need, and enough ammo to stock the larder for many years.
