686+ with a 158gr XTP, Win brass and primer, 16.6 grains H110

First at 22 yards, picked 'er up and fell literally, head over heels. Second approx 70 yards grazing, took the shot and i (nor the deer) realized it was hit. After a few seconds it picked it's head up and went to leap....but dropped right there instead. Cool

Bushmaster, jump on me Evil or Very Mad because I haven't taken a deer yet with my load but I think this is a great subject. GP100 6" ss with 158gr xtp and 16.8gr of w296. regularly prints 3-4inch groups at 50yds. Just need to find the venison. Laughing

"Get ur done", Bushmaster, my favorite quote to the kids..."just get ur done". I'm working on, I'm working on it. We got out more last year than I have in the last 10 years. The kids saw lots of game, just need to get in the right position/circumstances........no excuses though..."just get ur done" is the answer. thanks

Cool Yes, it's for my Ruger Blackhawk, Freedom Arms and 6" Contender. I use Small Rifle Primers for the cup stregnth and all loads are worked up with them. This load is not used in my S&Ws or anything else for that matter. The 296 that I'm using is an older run that I bought 8#, it is slower than current 296 that I have tested and when it runs out I will have to work up a new load for that batch, it will probably drop down 1gr. Also the bullet when seated is @ .050 from the front of the cylinder in my FA and @ .060 in the Ruger. Also, I don't let anyone use my loads in their gear......... Cool

Maybe i am going blind but this is all i found.....

(p) “Muzzle-loading firearm” means a muzzle-loading rifle having a barrel bore diameter of at least 40/100 of an inch and a charge of at least fifty (50) grains of black powder or equivalent; or a muzzle-loading specialty single shot handgun which has a barrel length of not less than ten (10) inches, a bore diameter of at least 45/100 of an inch and which propels a projectile of two hundred forty (240) grains at not less than five hundred (500) foot pounds at one hundred (100) yards.

If this is all.....it does not pertain to regular pistol/revolver nor is it a regulation on a "modern" pistol/revolver caliber restriction Confused

This is the only thing other than what i posted that says anything about caliber diameter.....being it, in a conventional pistol/revolver.

In addition, the Commission authorizes any other cartridge fired from a firearm that has a barrel bore diameter of at least thirty-five hundredths (.35) of an inch and the cartridge generally delivers at least five hundred (500) foot pounds of impact at one hundred (100) yards and cartridges used are loaded with a lead, sofe, or expanding point bullet.

So in essence, a heavy magnum 357 round in a 6" and longer barrel can be used (because that's only what would be able to achieve 500 ft lbs at 100 yards).......Or am i not reading this correctly?

i was told once that the above must be applied to commercial loads. i do not know if there are any 357 mag loads that will do 500 ft lbs at 100 yards. Either way you can not use a 357 Mag in Wyoming for big game
