OK,
we all seem to agree things arent what they (I) think they should be.
Where did we (baby boomers) go wrong.
We seem to have ridden on our fathers backs and got a really good start, however we spawned Gen Y and Z and allowed them to turn into the spoiled sulking gits we have today (not all but a lot).
So where did all the mamby pamby, softly softly, dont smack your kids, no-one looses, risk aversion, greed at all costs crap come from?
I agree with the other throught provoking post where he said we "used" to do great things, now we're too afraid.
Just where did all this crap come from?

The bleeding hearts and greenies and lawyers..
They are to blame.
Those that lets their emotion rules rather than logic.

For thousand of years society grows and prosper the way it is, in the harsh world.
Then come the bleeding hearts that say you are not to put the belt to kids that err, going to the bush is dangerous, killing animal for food is cruelty - get your meat at the supermarket where no animal is harmed, those murderers and rapist is not bad - they have bad childhood so you should feel sorry for them etc etc etc..
ARGH!

I think the old way is best.
You steal, you got your hand chop off.
You damage something, you got to pay for it or you got to work hard to pay for it.
No bleeding feel sorry crap.

Society has gone the way that rebels are idolized.
Instead of seeing them as bad, they became hero.
Hollywood are much to be blamed too..

I'd say:
the world is too soft now a days.
people no longer have a work ethic.
people have too much free time on their hands so they can nose their way into others business.
In the case here in the states, the Govt gives out welfare to these lazy bast... umm, people who wont work and keep having babies.
Just in addition to Gel above......

Ok ya really wanna know? It all started in the cartoons, yep they took away our Popeye the Sailor Man because it was too violent, took away our Bugs Bunny and others because they were promoting animal cruelty and racism. Interesting what they traded for. Now we got Japanese imports that nobody can understand, but the kids love them. They don't seem to care if they're violent because they have a good guys/bad guys theme and everyone loves a hero. For the even younger crowd we got animated fluffy ball things (don't know what they're called) that speak baby-talk and have bad Ebonics English to teach our kids to be kids (I guess) and always be kids, cause kids should be kids and never know the real world can be cruel and ugly. No one gets hurt, killed, talked bad to, spanked, punished, no one looses a game, it's all happy-happy.

They did this so they can quietly take away from the parents (while the kids are watching and being their back-up) those things that destroy happiness, like guns, money, healthcare, good jobs and you know all those things that cause arguments and destroy our true well-being.

It cracks me up (and you're going think I'm gay or something) have you noticed they've been censoring television in rather odd ways? Some of the old movies and most of the newer ones on network television have been censored by blocking out butt cracks and even nipples showing through shirts. HHHhhhmmmm used to show that stuff....remember National Geographic shows in Africa? Can't show that kinda porno any more. Don't wanna show any dead people or people being executed that would be just cruel punishment for our children. Nothing like reality to slap you into the real world and ruin your fantasy-day. We're being taken care of, thank you very much, and I know my parents have no idea how to raise kids, so at least the government has the foresight to intervene. Thank God they did too, otherwise we'd be watching Captain Kangaroo, Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, Popeye, Brutus, Daffy Duck, Rocket J. Squirrel (yes he had a middle name) and others beating the hell out of one another. Ever seen Brutus's butt crack? Ever seen Olive Oil's nipples showin through? Let's hope not!!

Here's where the baby boomers went wrong. They decided to raise their kids in a non-violent way, no hitting or spanking just talk it through. That escalated into OH that's child abuse. The love generation loves. Well maybe we can accuse others of child abuse and make it a crime? Got a lawyer? Need some money? It's just like the drug industry. You can't make a pill, and sell it as a cure, if there's no disease for it. For instance acid reflux disease didn't used to be a disease until they came up with a drug that cured it. Using that logic you can say that a cut finger is a disease because we have Neosporin that cures it. If you eat right you won't get acid reflux. If you don't drop a knife on your leg, (Vinnie) you won't get cut. Industry and government are inventing diseases and crimes for the sake of money. They've used excuses and used scape-goats to come up with them but that's what they're doin and nobody stands up to them. The real point. NOBODY STANDS UP TO THEM. The pacifist mentality of the sixties, we love to love, has been taken advantage of. If you used to push your fellow nerd in the mud when you were a kid, you can now expect that move to be a crime.

and
that's
not all
Suz

and now SBS Sue Bradford Syndrome.....
she is the %&$#@ that brought in our anti smacking bill, note thats not anti beating... thats always been a no no . now we are too plurry scared to give a kick up the butt in public for fear of being reported and prosecuted.. so the kids know/learnt very quick that playing up in public was unpunishable the kids are were pushing boundaries as all kids do then this #%&$@ came along and cut the plurry fence down making it very hard to set clear lines in the sand so to speak. when the lines are blurred/ hard to find for kids they grow up learning to get away with too much as its hard to keep the shi&* in check.
take away thier cellphones or play stations and ipods I hear these bra burners say... been there done that... whooopde friggin doo say the angry kids, when they are in that red faced aggresive mode the shutters come down and no matter what you SAY it cant get through... now a swift kick up the jacksee gets the mesage through quick smart but oh no thats cruelty.

This baby boomer grew up with family that DID let you know right from wrong and my wife and I taught the same thing to our kids years ago. I can say all of our kids are grown up and married (except one) and have never been on the wrong side of the law.

The baby boomers, and prior generation remembered that discipline starts in the home. Todays (Stoveys) favorite saying is "Stupid Liberals" are candy a$$ed.

Actually, for a long time now I have a theory. Looking at it from the MALE gender side.

During the first half of last century, the world sees warfare more than what they have seen before.
Man (and to lesser counts, woman) was killed in the mass.
Back then, became a soldier and fight for your country is an aspiration that GOOD men have.
They were thought by their father and his father and his father's father and.. to work hard, keep your words, be honest and so on.
The ones that stays behind are mostly the scoundrels, draft dodgers and generally lazy, self serving and cowards.

During the war, GOOD men were killed.
Thus left many orphans at home that do not have any hard working honest HERO to look up to.
Naturally, the kids that are left over, which are too young to be drafted, look for an adult to learn from.
Guess what..
The nearest adults are the draft dodgers, or wives and mothers that lost their anchor in life.

The draft dodgers are naturally slimy, they prey on the needy wives that lost their men.
They generally are the lazy ones that do not like to work hard, and always come with good excuse not to help when community need to to something, yet they are the first one come in line whenever there is a handout.

The women, having lost their husband, wish to hold on the most precious other in their life, their children. The children are wrapped in cotton like they are breakable, and punishments are limited to simple scolding, instead of belting or tanned bottom as it used to be.

Thus dangerous things are forbidden, what you cannot get away with before, now you can do because the punishment now is simply being told off for a few minutes, instead of being unable to sit without pain in the bum for a few days.
And being a MAN now means how much money you can make, how much girls you can score, or how good you can blind side another,
rather than how good you keep your words, how hard you work or how high your real achievement can be.

Kids, some of them, were given everything they wanted when they wanted it. They never learned that things cost money - Heck both mom and dad were working so there was lots of money. There wasn't much time with mom and dad though so they learned how to get by in school without learning much and jobs were plentiful so a highschool education was all that they needed. Then jobs fell off and they needed more education but it was nearly impossible to get into school without going back to do high school and college prep classes over. For the first time in their lives the instant gratification no longer existed. Somebody blamed big business and so here we are.
The government "takes care of us" and all we need to do is keep the "peoples candidate" in office. So many people are on some kind of assistance "handout" that they will do anything to keep it. This is why I am 87% sure Obama will be reelected. The other 13% is because the republican running is a joke - he is meant to lose. This will give the republicans a big jump-start in 2016. By then it will be impossible to repair the economy and that will take them out of office in 2020. Who will get elected? My money is on the Libertarians. Most people will have finally had it with the top two parties and the libertarians will be up next. If the people can stand the uproar that will happen when programs are closed and the military is all called home, the jobless rate will skyrocket and people and businesses will be brought back home. The jobless rate will drop, people will learn to help family and friends and the country will again belong to those who know how to get by and help themselves. In some ways it will be a return to the early 1900s but we will have the technology and information of the present.
The national debt will be expunged and solid financial systems will be put in place.
Or the next year the democrats will win and we keep going down hill except for the debt which will continue to grow untill the feds can't afford to do anything but pay the interest on the amount they have - no more borrowing until it is paid down - which will mean bigger taxes and nothing for it. At that time the revolution will begin. Some states will secede from the union and people will simply not pay taxes. The country will fall apart amid anarchy and pockets of republics starting up anew.

I AM an optimist - you should see the pessimistic point of view!

Every last one of you have called the problem correctly. Only thing I will add is today juveniles have no respect for:
Authority
Society
Their elders
other peoples property
Property that isn't theirs
and worst of all...they don't seem to have any Self Respect.

I se this far too often when assisting the local Police, so I'll leave it at that because it makes me extremely angry when I see that the Judicial system (now controlled by the Legal system) does nothing about the problem.

Mad Mad

Cheers, Vince

Man, I could write an entire PHD Thesis on my observations of the generations, it would be anecdotal for sure, but everyone that has already spoken has covered a number of the main points.

Can't agree with you all more.
