So I know none of you are in Toronto, and most likely have no idea that Toronto Parks put up no fishing signs along the harbor.
Jim Hart of Toronto Parks decided that a mere 7 complaints over 3 years warranted him bypassing City Hall that is in motion to pass a By-Law called "Gone Fishing" where by Fishing would be deemed "important" and have a "official status" by posting up signs on June 6th banning fishing along the harbour front.
While the "Gone Fishing" motion is a great one, one side effect of typical laws, is that it has a clause saying if any property is posted as no fishing, it remains the same way. Meaning that Toronto Parks effectively grandfathers the entire park system as a no fishing area regardless of if "Gone fishing" passes or not come July.
The "Gone Fishing" thing was first called to Council in March, and they had their review of it June 12th. So coincidence they put them up 6 days ahead? I think not!
Anyways, Toronto City Hall, sided not with the 7 complaints, but with the 10,000 fisherman who fish in Toronto every year. Voted to lift the new Toronto Parks ban on fishing and continued on with the support of the "Gone Fishing" initive.
