"366 yds"?? "324 yds"?? Not sure I understand these rather odd yardages...The 300 yds I do though...

Gidday BSSS, I'm with Bushy.....they are very strange distances. wtf I initially thought they might be metres converted to yards, but they ain't according to my conversion tables. How did you arrive at these figures? Confused Why 366 yds instead of 350 yds and 324 yds instead of 325 yds? Confused Confused

Very strange. Confused Confused Confused

Perhaps he calculated the pointblank ranges of his runs to be "on target" out to 500 yards or something ?? Confused

I will try to explain! I have been hunting Groundhogs for many years! I learned over the years to sight in at 80% of the yardage I intend to shoot. My old math is 458 yds. for the 366 yd. sight in, 405 yds. for the 324 yd. sight in, 376 yds. for the 300 yd. sight in.
I should increase the sight in yardages for the distance I shoot now but I have the clicks figured out real well for the one rifle. The other one is a different story! I try to use it for yardages over 600yds., it should be sighted in at 800 yds.. But due to the growing season over the Summer we have the Spring only for the 1000 yd. attempts. A 600 yd. sight in would work, but a pig at 475 yds. deserves attention also. I do not always take a second rifle along so you use the one you have. I'm sure this is as clear as mud, it just works for me!
fire away!

Ok BSSS, I understand you rationale now. If it works for you, great. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Don't know how big a Groundhog is, but to try for them over ranges of 600yds - 1000yds sounds like a real big ask. Would take some real serious capability ....well beyond my ability thats for sure. Damn, I'm lucky to see a critter at that range let alone shoot it. Very Happy
