Been training all week, felt good and strong, gun's tuned up, get to the spot, we are going up to cash in our chukar chips. Hit their lair, no one's home, get to the top, still no one, hike over to another mesa, still no one, winds howling, kinda cool, they moved, and to where I'm not sure. We scrambled a lot of slides, mesas, cliffs, covered miles and did thousands of feet in climbing and decending. Nothing. Lot's of signs, tracks, one call came all day, but, they were not to be found.
Drove to another spot, found some Gambles doing their afternoon migration between some PP to get to a feed zone, that's good news!
Gave them some space, hunted some jacks for a bit, got 6 for back-strap fajitas and stuff, came back and...poof! Quail's gone too.
Covered some more miles, no signs or sounds. Great. Off to the chukar hills again, sat out till almost dark, lots of tracks in feed zones, sat around getting cold, one call heard, scoured the place again, nothing.
Aaand, there's a full moon rising. Well there's yer problem....
Anyway's, good day to be alive, my new SARPA 20g mountain gun (code name "Sherpa") is a joy to use and carry and it's earned it's stripes and has a mean bark w/ #3 fast-steel and Fiocchi HV lead 1oz #6 coming out, I mean it's DEADLY on big Jack's. Season's winding down, games getting smarter, dumb one's are in the bag already so....here's a pic taking a beak on the way up and stuff...these climbs are not for the timid.
