You see: practise does help!
Or did they carry phonebooks? (because I have the impression you have something going with phonebooks )
Congrats! You started well this year.
And that's hunting: sometimes you go for weeks and don't get a chance, sometimes you go for 5 minutes and fill the freezer.

shrpshtrjoe, I was just trying to catch up with you. The freezer is still 1/2 full with elk so I'm going to have to rent some neighbor's freezer space to hold these three, especially since I'm getting them all made into sausage.

sausages???? I cooked (part of) the diner yesterday: some fallow deer steaks in a tajine, some fallow deer steaks prepared as a normal beef steak and some real deer goulash with red vinegar and red wine. The steaks and the goulash tasted the best. Shall I send you the recipe? In the foodindustry sausages are made from pig skin and ears... not the good meat!
As long as you have teeth, you better use them! You can still cut all the meat in a meatmill when you're very old and teethless...
Or is this the results of all these Mc-Donalds?

I have to agree with Aloy, were them deer padded with phonebooks??? You were using the new Hornady phonebook seeking bullets weren't you? |
No phone books this time (Aloys, I always love your humor). I had an invitation to hunt on a tree farm. The owner wanted us to shoot as many deer as we could as they damage his trees. I did use the .270 Win with Hornady 130gr GMX as we didn't want the deer to run off onto the neighboring property. At 150 yards, the big doe dropped without moving an inch. The two smaller ones ran 50 yards before dropping. Terminal performance was as expected.

Aloys, all 3 were "gone in 60 seconds!" Actually, I think it took about 30 seconds. I haven't had a hunting situation that bountiful before.

Oh, you need to try this processor's sausage. Best breakfast sausage I've ever had and his German dinner sausage with jalapeno and cheese is heavenly!

Slim, I'm jealous! And congrats! That was some good shooting!
Deer season ends here today and I missed the last two weeks with a bum arm. However, that coyote I saw in Dec will be hunted as soon as I can get back out there...
Interesting that Slim mentioned the tree farm. It appears that the reason we didn't see many deer this year may be due to a company shooting them on a depredation permit. I was told that they shot a couple of hundred deer over the last two years on land bordering where I was hunting. I think that they are required to leave the deer where it falls but can't confirm that yet.
