geraldbergeron,

Since I got no idea what type of screws your talking about I'm going to go with the way my automotive teacher taught me.

Tighten all screws slowly one at a time. If you got 2 screws tighten them progressivly applying pressure slowly to both screws at the same time.

So for your case increase the amount of torque your applying by 25% of max each time making 4 operations on each screw allowing them to get in evenly for the most part.

Kinda like on cars when you do the clockwise tighting.

1--------2
3--------4
5--------6
7--------8

Do 1, 8, 7, 2, 5, 4, 3, 6 for example slowly making 2-3 tighting operations on each one up to the torque you need. Smile

Dimitri

Sorry.

Question by a real beginner...

I was thinking of action screws on rifle.

Thank you.

Gerald:
Welcome:
I have always done it this way: Bolt action: Front screw just snug first, then rear screw snug. Bump the butt of the stock on the floor gently to seat the action , then tighten the front screw, then rear. The middle screw should be tightened firmly, but not enough to torque the action. I hope that helps.

P.S. I knew what you were asking about. Some guys... Stick around and enjoy the forums.

Thank you for your attention.

That was the kind of answer that I expected.

FYI, Savage recommends exactly the same procedure as outlined by sniper. That is also the way I do it. I have no 3 screw actions, so torquing is not an issue with me. I also set the butt on my bench while holding the action in the stock with one hand. Before I even insert any action screws I manually push the action as far down as I can before I place the front screw in and snug it. Then I place the rear action screw and very loosely snug it, and then bang the butt on the bench before snugging it up. Then I go back to the front screw and snug it even more.
