Well just put on almost 130 mile round trip adventure to nowhere. Since the local outdoor rifle range is permanently closed thanks to vandalism the nearest one is 60 miles away. So this morning I grabbed the 410, 44mag, and the 340wby and targets and headed out for what I was hoping for a great morning. Upon arrival there was not a soul in sight much less a car. Gates were locked up (it's always open from 9am till 3pm everyday, it's not staffed)
Mad and called the local dnr office and since it wasn't an emergency I left a recorded message and my cell#. Waited for about 1/2 hour and headed back home. I just may have to buy some land out in the county to do my target practicing. Boy I just hope they didn't close that range. Sad

Update: just got the call from the dnr and the range was closed for spraying of
Autumn olive and honeysuckle growth. He also told me that the state bought almost 600 acres to convert to upland game area.. Smile He also said that the range will be open next week until the end of May when the last weekend they are hoping to have volunteers to cut and spray for Autumn olive and honeysuckle growth. I said sign me up... Smile

the buckshot I loaded up patterns up fine. at 15yrds the balls land about 4" apart so it should be good for 50yrds.

Elvis

I don't have one of them H&R survivors guns, I regularly take out my stevens 410 o/u that I just got a little bit ago out every weekend looking for bunnies, but I think the hawks must have gotten them.

I have a question, as some of you know I'm using a bunch of old 303 brit to make brass 410s. Some of these old cartridges have the oversized British primers, where they dimple the primer hole in 3 spots to hold it in. My question is, can I somehow make a modern large rifle primer work in these? Maybe silver solder a shim in to take up the slack? It wouldn't be hard for me to do, but I'm not sure if the primer would be safe if I did that?

Also, While pulling the bullets from the 303s , I found some that were very hard to remove. They had RUST on them. I think they are steel jacketed because they stick to a magnet. These are from 1943 , even marked on the rim and the boxes they came in. Have at least a 100 of them.

Dan, hop in your car and drive to Midway and pick up some brass or plastic hulls for your 410. Than take and pull the 303 bullets and dump the powder on the lawn or garden and smash the cases and bring to a recycling center.
