Yep, my pictures is of the bolt from the bottom. You can see the firing pin going the length of the bolt. I wonder if they move the components to the bottom to keep the top of the bolt closed to reduce debris getting in the action.

If you can pick up an 39a extractor spring for cheap, get one. It looks like it could be modified to fit your bolt. It would be worth a try.

my firing pin is on the top too, Strange . I will try that, It shouldn't be to much to adapt it if its long enough. Mine is straight and held in with a screw

by the way, did you know Teddy Roosevelt started the Progressive party after he quit the Republican party? Just some interesting history I thought.

Its like they took all the components that were on the top and located on the bottom in updated designs. Do you need me to take some more pictures?

how about the magazine tube. The one that was in the box with this when I found it seems short, but my dad insist this is the right one. The dovetail slot on the barrel for the tube is just under the back side of the front sight dovetail slot. But to make that work the inside tube would be exposed about 5 inches out of the outer tube. Ok, I'll take a picture of it later on and post it. Trying to explain its a little complicated.

I'm with you, I have my Marlin apart because I'm shortening the barrel to make the rifle better balanced, 24" to 19" -20". I don't think its difficult to adapt a different magazine tube to your pump.

How long is your barrel?

barrel is 24 inches. I like the idea of shortening it though, it would make it a nice little compact gun , and a little better for the kids to shoot too. I would think.
Have a question for anyone who wants to chime in. The barrel liners my dad has are for 22 short. He said they were a mess up in ordering, he had ordered 22LR , but kept the 22 shorts when they came and just ordered more of the right ones. 22 shorts are 1 in 14" twist, and 22 LR is 1 in 16" twist [ according to my dad, I didnt check myself yet] Now I dont think it would make a big difference if I lined it with the 22 short liner, my dad says likely wont, but he said I should still look into a 22lr liner just in case. here is a photo of the barrel. the all black with a light in the center photo isnt an eclipse of the moon, its an inside the barrel shot. you can kind of get an idea of how bad it is inside though. cant find rifling anywhere in it.
Also, the barrel with magazine tube and the inside tube photo. The outside tube is setting in place , where the screw divot [?] to mount it. hope it gives you an idea of just how short I think it is. The inside of the magazine is just under it.
and the last one is the front sight I had to repair. after measuring what was left of the original front sight, I filed it down and silver soldered a piece of brass wire onto it.
I still have a lot of fine sanding and polishing to do before the I'm ready to put the finish on, and I will be getting the stock from my dads this coming week when I head down there.

The locking breach , my 3 an hopefully final attempt should be done this weekend. Depends though, I have my daughters this weekend and dont always want to take time away from them to do other things that can wait. have to see if the get hypnotized in the computer or a movie again or actually want to do things with living breathing human beings. lol the hardest part of the breach is getting the spring loaded pin that rides on the carrier right.

Oh, and I just about have the pump slide bar done. Had to use a torch to anneal the steel and then use some daps, dapping blocks , hammer and a vise to get the curve in it where it slides in past the magazine tube area of the receiver. all those years of making and fixing jewelry have finally paid off ! Laughing but it looks good now and just needs finalizing and a polish.

I don't think a bullet would even exit the barrel in one piece out of that barrel. It would be ground to bits.

I don't think the twist will be an issue. You can also shoot the 60gr Agulia bullets better. Will you ream out the chamber to take 22LR?

I think you should consider shortening the barrel to match your magazine. That is an old style, real old style, mag tube attachment that is much different than modern. You could adapt modern if you like because it is a dovetail also but it is a loop the tube goes through with a small pin.

yeah, I am going to chamber the barrel for 22lr, thats what it was originally. On the barrel is is stamped 22-s-l & lr, might as well keep it that way. have all the tools to do it anyway. well, my dad has them.

Agulia bullets ...hmmm. never thought of those. Maybe I need those for next time I have a opossum at 2am in the back yard again lol.

thought about a new magazine, i read about how you can put a model 39 tube on the 20a pump. they say its a much better set up and doesnt mess up feeding like the original 20a does. Or so they say it does. here is a napkin schematic they had on how to modify for it. just in case your interested. and, the 39 magazine is obtainable.

39a mag tubes are still obtainable. I don't understand the drawing unless that is an adaptor going into the receiver to accept the modern tube. If you want to keep your barrel original, then you could adapt a 24" tube pretty easily. I have to shorten mine or get a 20" tube set-up. We could trade out. I'll take some pictures this morning.

Here is a pic of the Marlin 39a mag to barrel interface. Note the small groove in the top of the mag tube that locks it in place when the pin is inserted in the dovetail hoop.
