Well for me I'm still sitting here in stunned silence. I can not believe that so many people are so (_*__*___) stupid. I was also wondering how well patrolled the Alaskan border is. Any insight? How did this happen? Complacency? Or just the swinging of the pendulum? I thought you just rid of some of your gun registration laws and there was more hope for the future.

Another starry eyed liberal with no real political background, no tail-wind of accomplishments but handsome as the devil and talks up a good story....sounds familiar to me. The name is also familiar and I'm sure that helps a lot. Harper did a good job (what do I know) of keeping the economy more level and on track compared to the US. It was Harper's friends and appointees feeding from the trough that was his demise and it was always perceived that it was Harper that was up to no good. They even painted him as a tyrant for establishing anti-terrorism legislation and calling him a racist Islamaphobe and anti immigrant.

Well so here we are, Trudeau's far left will now roll back the gains of Harper's balanced budgets, slashing red tape and taxes while keeping a healthy welfare state. Must have read Obama's biography (and liked it).

If I had the answer to that I'd fix it all for the next election - sadly four years from now. The media in this country has been very anti Harper for a long time. Apparently he wasn't very "media friendly". So there was a lot of anti Conservative slant to the reporting. For some reason the national media is quite pro liberal - I guess the liberals promising to increase the funding for the cbc (national broadcaster) carried some weight.

On top of that you have Atlantic Canada going completely liberal because they promised to change the rules for EI (employment insurance) that Harper had changed to make more difficult to collect. This area has a high rate of unemployment with a lot of seasonal employment in fisheries. So eight months of EI and four months of work. trudeau will make it easier for them. Sprinkle in a little spending here and a little there and poof your in. It seems that people can't make the connection between government spending (all those nice things they "give" you) and higher taxes.

As far as the guns go yes we did get rid of the registry and some of the other goofy restrictions. But not enough. We still can not use a hand gun for hunting, hell we can barely use a hand gun. The liberals campaigned that they would not bring back the registry (they grossly underestimated it's cost originally) however they did say that they would sign on to the UN treaty that Harper did not and we all know what that entails. A means of tracking and identifying who has and where the firearms are. That sounds like registry to me - no? It does not bode well for us on that front. The liberals are definitely anti gun. Not sure if it was trudeau (but certainly a liberal) that said the only people in Canada that should possess a firearm is military and police. I'm still so mad at the sheeple I could spit.

Pretty close analysis Suz. The liberals over the years have been far worse than the Conservatives for feeding at the trough. That's the part that I find maddening - it seems people have forgotten all the scams from the liberal days. Honestly the liberals make the Conservatives look like boy scouts. Yeah that anti immigrant stuff, all he said was refugees could come but the process would not be short-cutted to allow for proper screening. Wow lets not make sure we aren't letting in terrorists eh? Te libs love having people waiting with their hands out.

At the height of the economic freefall 2006-2008(?) going on in the world he promptly spend 55 billion dollars putting the country further in the hole, but keeping the effects of the global recession from harming the country too much.

Don't get me wrong I used to be a Liberal but our family did a vengeance vote to the Conservatives (Reform Party) 8 years ago and while I agree that Harper did do some very good things he also is the only prime minister to be held in "contempt of parliament" and not disciplined because he was the leader of the sitting majority in the house. I don't agree with fear mongering and cutting the public service to the bone, firing or muzzling scientists and letting government services and infrastructure (Literally) disintegrate.

I also don't agree with the Liberal position on firearms ownership and use. This was the main reason the family all voted Conservative in the first place.

It is my recollection that more than one liberal PM should have been held in contempt of Parliament but it was never pursued. The things those guys did and the outrageous lies told and now they want to point fingers?

You can always tell when a politician is lying ... he (she) opens their mouths. The Liberals surely are no angels and I was really hoping for a minority government or even a coalition government but alas we will just have to wait and see what the young padawan does or does not. I will never register my firearms again nor let them be taken. TEMR (thus endth my rant) Cool
