Vince:

Did they play the mounted games as well as the jumpers? I am sure no one else on the board has ever heard of mounted games. It is like relay races on horseback run head to head, not against time. It is very exciting and the skills these kids get by jumping on and off these ponies at a run is amazing. There are aobut 50 different games tthat can be played that involve manuvering the horse around obstacles, picking things off of the ground vaulting back on the horse(no stirrup mounts) handing things to teammates at a run. Popping ballons on the ground with a 3 foot rod at a dead run is a fast race and always a crowd pleaser.. all in all it is very cool.

They even let us old cuss's play. They call our group the Fossil's division. Very Happy

Gidday DD. My daughter used to do some sort of mounted games....but its been a while and like a few others of us here I suffer with CRS.

I remember that the kids used to have a ball with these games when the various clubs around Cairns and the Atherton Tableland used to get together.

Bushy,

Funny thing about some horses, they almost seem to enjoy getting shod. The fella we had up in Cairns didn't seem to mind at all, and one of my son-in-laws horses will happily stand there to be shod...don't even have to tie him up. A lot of this is due to the farrier. The better they treat the horse the more the horse comes to trust them. Knew a guy in Sydney who called himself a farrier...but he wasn't, in fact he wasn't a farriers bootlace. His idea of controlling a fidgety horse was to whack the horse in the ribs with flat of his hammer. We had "words" !!!! Mad Very Happy

Cheers, Vince

Oohh...You had one of those too. I watched a farrier run for his life when I suggested that I take a hammer to him after he struck My horse with one. Haven't seen him sense.

Bushmaster,

I'm sure anyone would run if you suggested you'd hit them with a hammer Shocked

Actually all this horse talk reminded me my cousin used to do it back when she was younger, had 2 full walls of awards from it. Its been years since I've last seen her horse or talked to her about it but I think (if I remember correctly) she did Equestrian type stuff. I was really little the last time I went and rode her horse. Shocked

Gidday mate,

Oh I didn't threaten to take a hammer to him (the farrier).....I had a counselling session with him....."contact counselling". Cool Funny thing, I never saw that farrier again either. Surprised Suffice to say that he had a few more bruises than the horse. Very Happy Laughing I can't abide cruelty to animals, especially those animals we call our friend. The horse wasn't shod again for sometime after that because you couldn't even lift his feet to clean his hooves. Mad

a friend of mine has a horse (is a horse of course) and ya missed something, you also have to watch what you feed them for thier food as well, apparently this one was getting too much grain?! and a bone in the foot tore away and turned in the foot (going by what i was told) so then a special shoe had to be attached, and of course once this was done the critter decided to try them out on the owners foot...

It's called Foundering a horse. Too much of a good thing.

All horses are inherently dangerous in that they may not mean it but it happens...

I can be Evil, Mean, Wicked and Nasty if the urge takes me. If I know that my son-in-law is taking his thoroughbred out the next day for a ride I'll put a GOOD scoop of cracked corn into his feed. The horse loves it, Very Happy the son-in-law don't. Laughing Laughing

Its fun watching him riding the next day. He is a pretty good rider but he usually has his hands full after a the horse has had a feed of cracked corn. They both get a good workout. Very Happy Very Happy

As I said....Evil, Mean, Wicked and Nasty. Laughing Laughing Laughing
