this may have already been asked here but alas i do not find it ,lol
i have a lot of .308 win brass and need some 7mm 08 brass and was wondering if it were possible to resize the .308 in a 7mm 08 fl resizeing die and have 7mm 08 .
the manuals all show there the same brass except the bullet dia. and the shoulder and the die will move the shoulder . it seems like it may be a tad short (.015 to .020 ) any ideas ?? Cool

piece of cake. the .308 is your parent cartridge anyway the same goes for .243.

When sizing down to a smaller caliber you might run into necks that are a tad thicker than "normal". If you have a tight throat it could cause pressure problems or even offset bullets due to the neck being thicker on one side. Its a good practice to check with a neck turning tool.

OV1, thats a great cartridge diagram. Where can I find ones like that? I'd like to get it for .223, 6.8, and .270.

Slim

It's a scan from my book "The Handloaders Manual of Cartridge Conversions" by John Donnelly. If you want PM me your e-mail address and I can scan and send the full size page of whatever calibers you want. 6.8 is to new as my book was printed in 2004.

+1 must neck turn after sizing, very important.

When the 7mm/08 was a wildcat, it the brass was made by necking it down and reaming/neck turning.

It was done prior to 1960.

Remington legitemised it in 1980.

If you take the expander ball out of your .308 die it should get pretty close.

I have that book and it contains some errors, I suppose nothing is fool proof but there are more in that book then usual just cross reference with another source or two. Mine is the 1987 edition maybe they fixed it by 2004.
