I picked up a new toy this week. Wilderness Systems Pungo 120. I love the way my old 9' boat handles up in the creeks and such but it was a little tiring to paddle in open water. Just too short and fat (Like me!). The new boat should let me keep up with my daughter easier. The crew seems to like it so far! Of course they haven't been in it in actual water...

Nice kayak. Have you had the course? The roll recovery is fun. I think I swallowed half the ocean before I figured it out. Nothing like a kayak for sneak shooting ducks and cruising the edges of the ponds (lakes) for moose early in the morning.

I'll take your words for it that this is good.
I got sea sick just looking at it..
I am scared of any water crafts, large or small...

very tidy looking canoe. it is about the size of my "blackboard boat" fibreglass painted with green backboard paint.
if you sit your shotty between your legs with the muzzle out the frount of the cockpit its a simple thing to place the paddle across your lap pick up the gun and let rip. contrary to common belief the recoil doesnot mean you will can out but try to line the boat up so you shoot over the bow as its easiest.

I got this yellow one so it would be VERY visible while out on the lake touring. My old, gray, boat may get a camo paint job this summer. I've been thinking about floating the river for ducks.

sounds like a good plan. check out blackboard paint its not too expensive nowdays and has zero shine, the mud sticks to it well too which makes it hide even better. dont write off the yellow boat either, on a busy water that has alot of tourists or fisherfolk the waterfowl may well be used to brightly coloured boats and ignore you if you approach at a glancing angle so you look to be going past at about 30-40 yrds of course just make sure its on your swing friendly side. Ive taken mallards and even canadas from a bright red canoe in the past this way.

I note in one of our hunting mags out this month a guy in a kayak with a decent stag. It was quite common around Lake Waikaremoana some guys were shooting deer at the waters edge from Kayaks. You just quietly paddle in pick up the shooting iron getting within 30 meters of the animal. The deer has no idea what its looking at.....Boom! Fresh Venison.

We took the kayaks out last Sunday and I was pretty pleased with the new one. It was harder to turn, which I expected, but much easier to keep straight and less effort to maintain speed. I raced my daughter for maybe 150-200 yards and beat her easily. Then we switched boats and raced another 100 or so yards and she beat me. Hers is a 12' Heritage Stingray.

I think it would be great fun to try deer hunting from a kayak, float the creeks, etc. However, if you get a big one where the heck would you put it? A canoe would be a better choice. NC has some sort of law prohibiting hunting deer from a boat but I'm not sure of the details right now.

Need to haul a small floating dock behind you for the deer. Very Happy

dont gut it and it will float on its own, or better still an old meat hunters trick gut it and put a inflatable beach ball inside and blow it up then just drag away. you wont go fast but once underway you will get there. we towed drums across the lake when out duckshooting it took a little effort but we got there. I could tow 3 x 205 ltr/44 gal plastic drums behind my canoe and that old beast was shaped just like a slab sided coffin and took some paddling on its own.
