I have a few firearms in the safe and some are collectibles with history or value other than intrinsic. In reality, I am like most -- a gun accumulator. Nothing wrong with accumulations of firearms, no sir.
All of mine get used. To me, an unfired gun is like a virgin wife; it kinda misses the point. But, at some undefined time, one has to wonder how all this accumulation will ever see field useage. Maybe, that isn't too important, afterall.
We live in a fabulous country that allows us to do as we wish with the several guns we own. Leave them unfired, shoot them a lot, accumulate more --- its our choice.
At least for now.

I collect guns because I want to and enjoy tinkering with them, going afield or to the range. They are an excellent hedge against inflation if you buy right and take care of them. I only buy used guns and have no intention of stopping any time soon. All the best...

Well, Gil Martin, that about sums it up for me too. And, I thought addicts looking for the next fix was bad!

With my handle, how can I not add my two cents?
I agree with the previous posts. I have never bought a gun that wasn't then taken apart, cleaned and studied. Some of them were then shot but not all. I love understanding the firearm state of the art in the 1800's and early 1900's. Things developed quickly from black powder muzzle loaders to metallic cartridges and all kinds of ways to shove them into a chamber. It's history that you can experiece first hand.
Some of my acquisitions turned out to be outstanding investments and some turned out to be losers. The losers were usually because of some aspect I misunderstood when I was looking at the gun. There have been a lot of carefully concealed repairs passed off as all-originals that sneak by if you are not very familiar with a particular model. All in all, I'm confident I could get out of my collection more than I have into it and that's not even counting the hours of fun.

I am seriously thinking my next firearm will be a class 3 full auto or selective fire rifle. I believe the value on these will multiply faster than any other class of firearm. Plus I am tired of being jealous when I go to the range and others are having fun with their full-autos. I have examples of just about every other rifle type, seems that I need a "machine gun" to complete my collection.

Went to Gander Mountain the other day just to look around.
They have been selling some Walther P1s, so I asked to look at the one they had on the shelf.
Instead of being a P1, a P38 got mixed up in the bunch. I checked the markings and the pistol was made on 5/62, and was unfired.
I talked them down to $270.00.
From what I can tell, it is worth around $500.00.
I haven't told my wife about this great deal that I ran into, because I'm sure that she would be too happy for my good fortune.
A guy just HAS to be ready at ANY time to pick up a gun for the family.

Guns arent bad
people are bad.
women i know and work with have guns. teach their kids how to shoot
carry more guns than their men.
we talk about fingernails, ammo, atvs, kayaking
and new ski or snowmobiling suits that are on sale.

I realize it's the people and not the guns. Maybe we should run this country, oh wait we can't, we're not rich enough. We all need to have our own oil company first.
Despite what my wife thinks, (she doesn't like guns) being from the Phillipines where guns are outlawed, My 5 year old already wants me to buy him a gun and a bow. GOOD BOY!!!

we need to remind the government that we do run it.
by the people, for the people
and find another method besides oil. then those fat pigs would be squealing
also would be hiring the mafia to do their dirty work to regain their control.
oil companies are satanistic.
did you see that gas prices in kuwait are .12 cents a gallon
and like 8 cents in saudi?
makes me wonder why we dont open the oil rigs back home and in the other states to bring down the price again.
bio fuels are getting bigger now as I drove through the midwest plains last year. Seems we should find a better way.
when is our next presidential election is it this Nov??
working too much to see tv

Horses would be a good answer. That's next year, Nov. '08. Oh, we have some good choices there. An anti gun, anti hunting man hater or Obama for the Dem's or the whole Rep. party. Rich getting richer, and they could care less about the poor.
