I’m considering the use of a holographic type sight for turkey hunting.
I am trying to find out if bright sun light is of a concern.
Currently I own a red dot that gets washed out in bright sun light and don’t want to use it. Happens most of the time when sighted on a light colored targets.

Turkeys are "light colored" targets?

No...I have just noticed that the turkeys here in Missouri are rather dark in color...
Now I do have that problem with my laser on sunny days....

The turkeys down here are really dark, also.
C-221, you're not talking about those white pen-raised ones, are you?

You think Chambered has been messin' around a turkey farm?
When you figure it out on the holo sight let us know if it is better then a red dot or laser...

Chambered, which red dot are you using? I've had good results with Milletts and they aren't very expensive. I've had one on a .44 Mag handgun for a while and its staying togther so far. I tried a Tasco once and it came completely apart, as in parts falling off, on a .40 S&W carbine.
I haven't tried a holographic sight yet for a couple reasons: 1 - The red dots worked and 2 - I am concerned about glare on the sight reflector obscuring the dot.

I have a 3 dot sight on my cross bow. It has various brightness settings for different conditions and it performs well in the bright sun light .

I have been using Tasco red dot on my .357mag Rossi Puma for 6 years never have any problem even under the harsh Australian summer sun.
Are you sure you mount them right? did you change the batteries?

The only turkeys I’ve been messing with lately are those here giving me all this grieve!!!
The red dot I have now is an Ultra Dot.
I think I mounted it correctly.
Batteries have been replaced with new ones. That was the first thing I did when I noticed the problem with bright sun.
And yes I have the rheostat turned to the highest setting.
I have very little experience with red dots and none with holo’s or lasers.
I’m more or less a traditionalist using a scope when ever possible!!!

I can't comment on hunting style sights but the Eotech HWS is a magnitude better than the Aimpoint when shooting with the sun low & in the front quadrant - so long as the front lens is clean, washout is minimal.

On the subject of turkeys (I don't mean Bushy and me)....The spring breeding season has been going on for about 2 weeks now. They are everywhere. I was down at my shop, hammering on a piece of iron on my anvil, and a flock of about 20, with four strutting gobblers walked about 100 feet from me. Normally, they will run if they catch site of you at 400 yards, these acted like I wasn't even there!
