Elvis - I had purchased the Win Power Points 180 prior to purchasing the R1 for use in the CZ. . Accuracy was abysmal. Although the CZ was new and the barrel a heavy fouler in the preliminary break-in period.

Hornady has the SP Interlock 180 in a cartridge and 180 round nose interlock as a bullet.

Claimed retention is 80-90% for the SP. Thanks for pointing in this direction.

Yes the Match bullets provide inconsistent results. Facing an angry critter requires a known constant. Back to the lead

thats a bugger as the winchester is rather spectacular on deer sized critters
weight retention with hornadies....shot 2 pigs with consecutive shots about 10 seconds apart, first was asleep at about 10-15 yards, projectile entered by its eye, went through head, burrowed down through neck, through chest and was found sitting by its nipple...pig was about 50lb but there is a heck of alot of resistance in that much and part of a pig retained weight was 111.7grns from memory and a prettier mushroom would be hard to find.... shot a reasonable sized stag last year with same load...how big??? I had brain fart and thought to carry it out whole...for all of about 5 yards before breaking it down. single chest shot saw it go all of 40 yards downhill before piling up in a heap...no projectile recovered on stag as it exited leaving good sized hole.

Elvis is right, bullet performance and placement is key to a responsible kill.
Of those two placement is king with performance a close second.

and placement differs from bullet weight, shape, energy, caliber and animal.

When energy is very high or very low, you're gone aim for neck or head for low meatlosses. Just behind the shouderbone will also work, but not to much behind when you want to keep it clean.
When caliber and energy fits the size of the game, shoulder area is THE spot, only be carefull not to come to close to the spine...

and for the rest: the higher the twistrate the more the bullet will stay on its traject inside the animal.

Elvis: I'll be looking for the Win at a location where they may have old stock. The Hornady SP Interlock should be a great cartridge. Lucky you having hogs to hunt. Always had the desire to hunt them with a pistol.

Paul S. / Aloysius: Shot placement and correct bullet are key factors.
Another location is the nerve bundle that is located in front of the shoulder. Much the same as the human solar plexus. I've shot whitetail in the neck/spine with an instant kill.
Head shots I will not undertake. The animal flinches and the possibility of wounding with a slow painful death is too great.

Frak over here thats known as the hillar shot...ideal on all but big boars (thier sheilds can defeat bullets) one of my favourite sayings in reguards to shot placement is....they cant go far if you take out the front wheels....
