sounds like you have a session weighing loaded rounds coming up very soon...look on bright side,no body got hurt.

HJ...do you cast your eye over the charged cases in your loading tray before seating a projectile mate? If you don't, I would strongly recommend you get into the habit of doing so because, at a glance, you will quickly notice any irregular loads mate. Squib loads and overloads stand out like a sore thumb when looked at in amongst the other cases.

If you use a progressive press, it makes it difficult to check the charge in the cases, but you should still be able to check it as you put a projectile in the case mouth to be seated.

On my progressive press (Hornady) I use a Hornady "Powder Cop" to check powder charges. Other manufacturers have similar devices.

Vince,

It's been a while since these rounds were assembled, but I thought I had done everything correctly. I can't tell you now whether I took a gander inside each case to check the powder level, but it is a normal part of my loading procedure.

This is my first attempt at loading any handgun cartridge and I may very well have missed something.

As Elvis mentioned, each of the remaining rounds will get weighed and anything "odd" will be removed from the lot. Fortunately, I didn't load very many.

Also, these were assembled using my RCBS turret press. I don't yet own a progressive press, but a Dillon sure would be nice.

I'd pull 'em, as there's enough variation in brass & bullets to make weighing fruitless.
my greatest concern would be that the powder "bridged" in the dispenser so one load was the squib & another received nigh on a double charge.
These days, I glance in every pistol case as I move it from the dispenser to the press just to confirm the amount is neither low or high (yep, I've had a squib AND later, the magazine blown out of a 1911 by the excess load, luckily without injury or more severe damage than a busted magazine...). Embarassed

well if you factor in say a 5-10grn difference and pull either side of it that will cancel any varience......anything inside that will go bang with similar results surely???
this is a really good reason to have /use a powder that fills case up well...no way you can double charge without spilling heaps which you will notice...one of the things I love about trailboss,it would be darn near impossible to overload a case with it.
