My Marlin 17V has a 3-9 x 50 Tasco on it, has also had a minor trigger tweak, and here is a 5 shot group at 100mtrs of 12mm thats just on 0.5 MOA Smile
I love the little hummer its a pleasure to shoot.

I have allways used a 22 for shooting rabbits, and all small game. including dogs.

nylon 66 black version was my first one to use to take first rabbit. I never used the back rear sight for aiming. allways put the gun up to my chin and looked down the barrel, centered the top front sight . allways shot right on shooting this way, but only on moving targets or objects. when it came to target shooting , I would loose. but moving object , it was spot on. wired.

now , I have a marlin 39A 22 lever action, with a bushnell scope. the iron sights are just as acurate.

The last rabbit I shot with this marlin 22 lever action. I used remmington 22 hollow point. I was about 65 yards away. took aim behind front shoulder. the rabbit was turned at a angle. when the bullet went threw, it blew it up on other side. all the insides was laying out , the other front end of the leg was blown off.
this was the first time I have ever seen a 22 blow up a rabbit like this.
with all the other 22 rifles I have used , this has never happend.

not real sure if it was the marlin 39a 22 lever aciton or not ? it does have 24" barrel with Micro-Groove® rifling (16 grooves).

have to admit, it is the best 22 rifle I have ever had.

Since my hunt usually includes coyotes I use a 22 mag. I got a Henry lever in 22 mag & combined with my Ruger single six convertible, seems just the ticket for me.

In AZ cottontails are a "game" animal and jack rabbits are vermin. Soooo, for cottontails which I have to eat, I usually use the .22 LR. Sometimes the .12 ga w/ 7 1/2 shot.

For Jacks, whatever is at hand....204, 6.5 x 55, 30.06.....

For rabbits I'd like to find and use my idea for the perfect dove gun.

Elmer was ok I guess but I'm more of a fan of Yosemite Sam myself. I think he would approve what I'm searching for; I want a 12 ga. double barrel automatic, belt fed, for both dove and rabbits. A Bofors maybe?

OK, so I have to admit I'm not much of a shot on rapidly moving targets but if I could just find what I've been looking for these past 40 years....they would all be in real trouble.

snowshoe hares= .22 long or long rifle, it's all I've ever used with the exception of a .410 that I borrowed from a buddy a few times when I was like...12 years old or something. It's what I grew up on. Feed 'em rabbit meat and you'll grow 'em tall, lol.

What, no one else uses a 308 Norma Mag????..... Shooting

I've used a 22 LR and have found it's all I've really needed. I like my 22 automatic if I'm chasing Jack's, but I've even used my 22 Beretta pistol when hunting snowshoe hares.

We have very few jack rabbits around here anymore, but I used to use my .22 LR and at times I would use my 22-250 at looong ranges. My brother in-law and I used to go shoot rabbits but we made a deal that they had to be running and at least 100 yrds away when we shot. He used his .17 rem and I used my 22-250. It was great practice.

Does anybody have a pet .357 load for bangin bunnies? The rounds i bought just make them into a puff of fur and pink mist.

I've been doing a little rabbit shooting lately and I've been using my Krico .22 repeater for sitting or standing rabbits and a Fausti Stephano 12g O/U for the little buggers when they are on the run. Both a good medicine for rabbits. Haha :haha: I intend doing a little more "Doctoring" in a couple of weeks.....dole out some more medicine. Very Happy Very Happy

Cheers, Vince

I hunt mostly Jack Rabbits out on the desert with a CZ527 .204 Ruger. They usually bust out way ahead of you and most of the time its a little too far for the .22LR Pistol Shooting

We do not have jacks here, only cottontails.

I started hunting rabbits when I could hold the gun up. I always hunted two ways, along a rirt road or lane in the late afternoon, just before dark. The bunnies come out on the edge of the lane and munch on tender grass. I use a 510 Remington with shorts for the head shots.

But I really love to shoot behind a mower deck in a pasture of tall grass with a 12ga. Start mowing grass at the fence and work in. At a point rabbits start running in all directions, across mowed ground. They throw on the afterburner and the shooting is fast.
