I don't know what to say because it really depends on how the plating took to your gun and age (which 2 of my plated revolvers have the ring and i leave it like that for character).:)

Hey all

I use the bore foam Wipe Out. Clean the guns after each range session but not after finalizing the load for hunting season.

Used to use Shooter Choice and Barnes CR-10 until I first used the foam. The good thing about the foam is that there is not a lot of scrubbing back and forth. Takes a little practice not to get the foam all over but this is the way I do it: Get 3 or 4 patches and push them into the chamber with a long screwdriver, leave a little sticking out so you can pull them out the ejection port later, put the bore foam nozzle in the muzzle and spray for about 1 second - no more, immediately set the can down and put your finger over the muzzle (have to be quick), when you feel the pressure build up take your finger off and have a rag ready to catch the excess foam - shouldn't be much.

Now, go set that rifle aside and do another one or do something else for an hour or overnight. The foams can be left in your firearm indefinitely and will not harm it. If it is the first time using the foam in that rifle you will be amazed at how much copper you had in the barrel you didn't know about. I use a bore guide and full length nylon coated rod and attach a brass brush to it and wrap a 1 3/4" square patch around the bristles. The bristle will hold the patch tightly and you will get a tight fit in the barrel and the bristle will give enough to let you push it through and keep the rod centered in the barrel.

The first time you use the foam you will have to use it 3 to 5 times to get all the copper out. After you have used it a few times that rifle will clean up with 1 or 2 applications. Usually takes about 3 patches through to get it out.

Unlike some oils like Break Free or Rem Oil, the foam does not seem to cause fliers on first shots.

This is the link

www.midwayusa.com/epro...mid=784639

the can says ingredients are Butylcellosolve, Alcohols, and water.

Some of the quotes on the can

"Wipe-Out contains a powerful anti-corrosive that prevents rust."

"Wipe-Out completely dissolves fouling caused by copper, carbon, primer residue, and both smokeless and black powder fouling."

"Wipe-Out is activfe for 24 to 48 hrs and may be left int eh firearm without harm. Wipe-Out will no harm Carbon or Stainless steel. Wipe-Out cannot cause rust."

"No Acid, No Ammonia"

There are other brand names like Outers and others. It is showing up pretty much everywhere even Wal-Mart.

Try it, you'll like it. I take that back, not everyone likes it. There were some on other forums that took exception to it, but they usually took exception to anything. Poke

"ingredients are butylcellosolve, alcohols, and WATER" Other then that it sure sounds like the "cleaner of cleaners". The solve all of preperations. I guess I'm like one of the guys on the other site.

Sorry. I guess I'm just an ol' fogey (be quiet 10ring) and need the reasurance of oil in my gun maintenance preperations. Smile

We all get set in our ways about stuff. One of my favorite bore cleaners is "sweets" some people say its to strong but if you use it correctly and oil the barrel when your done it works just fine. You sound like me bushmaster through the years ya find something that works well for ya and ya stick with it. I'm pretty hard headed when it comes to trying some of this new stuff out there Bonk .

On some things, you are right. Joe. and on the other hand a lot of the changes and new products out there are a good thing. Just have to be very careful and selective. At least this ol' fogey uses the most up to date computer and excessories. I do have to up grade some of my firearms in the safe (or that's what I tell my wife anyway). I just don't trust deliberately putting water in my barrels. Except my Front loader and that is a must to get it clean. But even then I tend to oil it about 6 times over a period of a week or until I'm satisfied it has no water left in it.

And yes...I'm definitely very set in my ways and a lot of the products I use have been around for a while. Tends to make you think they might be good after a lifetime on the market...
