As to the feral cats... Shoot them all! I saw some number once on how many natural birds, etc they kill in a year and was totally amazed!

Don't have a problem with roos mate...they are docile easy going critters (that are far too easy to hunt which is why I won't shoot them)...except when ya p1ss them off, then they can get real snarly. A big Western Red kangaroo, at over 6 feet standing tall, is big enough to kill or do most people a real nasty mischief.

If Im out deerstalking and see either a stoat/ferret or a cat and Im not in hot sign or expecting to see something very soon the ol .270 get unleased. I have shot a stoat(brown n white about 6" long by 1 " round not much bigger than a sausage) in the greenstone valley and stuffed my days hunting but it was worth it. those wee huas are deadly on birdlife.

Never thought about it but, does anyone eat kangaroo? How do they control their numbers?

Yep...kangaroo is regularly eaten by many people around the world.

Kangaroo numbers in Australia exceed 25 million and as a consequence there is a need (for the sake of the roos themselves) for culling. There is also a kangaroo harvesting industry that collects meat and/or skins.

To become a legal roo shooter there is a licensing procedure that includes shooting competence skills. Once a licence is issued the shooter may then purchase tags and every roo or skin taken must be tagged.

Roo carcasses once taken are delivered to a "Box" (refrigerated shipping container) where they are then removed to a processing facility. The meat, depending on quality, is allocated for human consumption or the pet meat industry.

Personally I am not a real lover of roo meat, its rather strong and "gamey", but if I was in need of food it would certainly be on the menu.

Some treehugger hippe by me feeds dozens at Rossler Point every day, now, not a bird to be found and the place is a mess, feral cats are nasty creatures, some look like Frankestien's...gross! "oooh, don't shoo the kitties and leave the nice lady with the crows living in her hair alone now..."

STUPID LIBERALS!

Lets face it, Walt Disney is to blame. As a result I harvest not kill, I process not skin and butcher and I only shoot mature nasty, male animals cause we all know that females are "Mothers" and the young are "Babies". Birds that look like chickens are okay to "Harvest" but those that look like pretty doves are not. With due apologies to Suz, an aboriginal hunt is "natural" but everyone else "harvesting" is because they are less developed intellectually (read redneck throwbacks). If I was native American I would definitely take offense to that sentiment.
