Bushy, you must have bought that before you got your reel to reel. That design has been superceded a couple of times already. I have RCBS's latest design.

I bought it new in 1986. I'm on my second cutting head. Wore the first one out after several resharpenings. I guess I HAVE had it for a bit.

Bushy, you never have problems with brass sticking between the pilot and the cutter, so that the case is hard to remove?

I have the Lyman trimming tool (which I adapted to be able to use a cordless drilling machine). I'm not completely satisfied with that tool as the pilots don't stay put and even that special nut that should stop the cutting at the right length, likes to move. And as already mentioned: the brass likes the enter in the little gap between the pilot and the cutter, what makes the case hard to remove.

I never trim handguncases. I always check all rifle-cases and trim when necessairy. But when it's only for a few cases, I don't do it on a trimming tool, I just give the a few turns on a file + the deburring tool.

On occasion that is a problem I admit, but if you keep the pilot well tightened and hard against the cutting head the problem doesn't seem as bad. As far as an accurate trim is concerned as long as you don't apply too much pressure [equally] on the mandrel crank it trims the same every time.

I've got the RCBS Trim Pro 2 and find it VERY consistent. I trimmed and then measured twenty .260 Rem cases and all were less than 0.001" difference. I also noticed that if I varied the amount of force that I put on the crank it changed the length, but still within that 0.001".

I’m pretty sure that’s what mine is. I picked it up used at “sale” a friend of mine had in his shop back in Ohio for $15.00. It was pretty ragged and would barely turn due to rust/neglect. Once I cleaned it up and oiled it, it worked like new.

I just prepped 100 5.56 cases tonight and found the accuracy to be about the same.

All my rifle cases are checked to insure proper length and if needed I use this trimmer: FrankFord Arsenal, this is the best I have use and when properly adjusted faster than any trimmer
