You mean shooting standing? Col. Cooper said off-hand and standing are similar but different, and I forgot the difference's. I can't group standing, not that stable.

I do it for fun and am happy when I achieve minute-of-gong @ 200y and out.

100y? Too close, where's the challenge in that? Nuts

Hi stovepipe, offhand over here means unassisted, and we practice it as a rested shot at game is not always possible in our thick scrub, at times you don't have enough time to sight at fleeing game let alone find a rest, ! Shocked

If I remeber offhand was no sling and no elbow resting on body/anything or somesuch. Def the hardest position to master, either way.

Hey stovepiped, yeah your right mate, if you noticed i did say, on a good day, as on a bad day, my groups could be mistaken for a shotgun pattern! Razz After 50yrs the only thing i learnt is to shoot as soon as possible, as the longer you leave it the more wobbly you become.
That also applies to hand gunning, which also looks like shotgun patterns most of the time. Very Happy

Cheers mate!

In Highpower service rifle off hand is fired at 200 yards unsupported no sling but you can pull your non firing elbow against your body, I average 93% which is not really that great because a 9 ring on an SR target is about 13" or 6.5 MOA BUT I shoot 20 shots in a string. Now within a string of 20 shots I can have 3-5 X's which is about 1 MOA. so..... I guess it depends on how many shots you take and how many you count toward group size.

So Paul, what is you best 20 shot group at 100 yards offhand?

I don't shoot 20 shot groups - even at the bench unless I am working on a new load. I keep it at five shots other times.
That 5/8" group was a long time ago - since my back injury I haven't even tried shooting standing so time will tell if I can ever do that again.
