Very Happy Hey-Hey Keetoowah; The .357 pistolero I was talking about was me,now if ya want me in camp-we need to talk! Very Happy Other wise the .357 revolvers are made by Smith and Wesson,or Taurus.Idon't recall the model of the S&W,however the Taurus is called the'titanium tracker"model and can be had in 2",4" and6" barrel lengths for about 500$ apiece.(.357 pistoleros are alot more expensive and harder to find) Very Happy Laughing

No handguns here because of the law. Smile

I'm more like tracker though, hunt camp is for friendly chit chat between everyone, some food and some drink, so if anyone was to stop by they'd be offered a plate of food and to stay a while. Smile

Still Bushmaster, can't believe thouse guys caused a problem, I'd imagine that the simple fact you had rifles or shotguns for the hunt would make the idiots think twice before causing a problem. Shocked

Dimitri

oh I thought that was the model name.
all spots in my camp are taken.
this is how we learn.
Taurus Titanium
Tracker sounds good.
anything with Tracker in the name sounds good to me. Love Hug

Hey Keetoowah, I bought my 6" Taurus mod. 66 .357 at a gunshow for $330. You can get them at a gunshop for around $380. I really like the way it shoots. It holds 7 rounds. I have a real good handload that I use too if that's what you decide to get. 1-1/2" group @ 50 yards using a tree branch for a rest.

wow thats cool.
hmm have to check out the shops here, gunshows are over for awhile I hear. I love my walther p99 but I have always wanted a .357. like the idea of the smaller length barrel to conceal it better
that taurus was a better deal than my p99 ...darn.
really need to get my bow strung and a rifle bought here soon, after I get moved and all.

In this state you can only carry one gun at a time. Sad

God I love Montana!!!
you see the truck racks with 2 or 3 rifles on them and you can bet there are more pistols in the cab.
I saw one once with a fishing pole a shotgun and a 30 06 and right next to him in the other lane was a bow and two rifles.
signs are up all the time about no guns on your person before entering.
pawnshops you have to take the gun in first then the ammo.

It is depressing to realize that we are one of the most restrictive states in the nation!! Many of us here pray for repeal of all gun laws!! Sad

just move else where. when the economy starts going down they'll change it.
of course you want to move to places other than Montana.
Very Happy like texas, oklahoma, louisianna, california, or georgia, arkansas.

I do carry a handgun while hunting with a rifle. Usually my six inch blued Ruger GP100 357 Mag. No I have never needed it but as the old saying goes, it's better to have a gun and not need it then to need a gun and not have it.

So far, I've noted no replies of where a handgun has been needed when carrying a rifle. For those that carry a handgun, is it solely for some perceived situation or are there some situations where having a handgun has been beneficial? I'm talking about useage in the field while hunting and not at the campsite.

I'd be more than happy to carry a handgun when hunting..........if the damn Govt would let us!!!!

My ideal carry would be a 4" or 6" S&W 586 or 686 in 357 MAG loaded with 158gn Hollow Cavities and every next round being a 158gn Flat Nose. Love the caliber and I believe that it is every bit as useful as a 44 MAG at close ranges, without the bone jarring recoil. Beyond "close" ranges then I have my rifle and/or shotgun.

Never had a need to "deal" with blokes with bad attitudes when out hunting, mainly because I only hunt private property and at this time the sanctity of private property is still pretty much respected by all.

Cheers, Vince
