It is a 22-250, handloaded with a barnes varminator
The track was located north of Las Vegas, (yes Nevada), all I need to do is find someone with some good dogs that would be willing to hunt at a last minute notice.
Went back to the same area last weekend, we had some fresh snow. No lion tracks but seen 6 elk, one was a raghorn 3x3 and 3 mule deer doe.
It's allways a good day for a hike in the mountains though

Any time you go afield and see any animals it's a good day. Now that we have the details. Go get that pussy cat...California will appreciate it (not).
Good luck.

Lemme dig up a picture of a cat track near my house growing up and post it... it was about 6" in diameter, really big cat. My dad actually ran into it with a couple other guys after it attacked some sheep we had... they followed it for 3 hours in the snow... when they finally caught up to it, it walked out 10 yards away and startled them so bad not one of them shot. They had 12GA shotguns with 00buck. My dad grew up in the mountains, he herded sheep for months at a time solo... at 9 years old. Shot and killed alot of stuff so it was extremely surprising to hear that when they saw the cat that close it startled him so bad they all just froze up.
I once when trapping, came upon some fresh cat tracks going around a big bunch of oak brush. I followed the tracks as they looked really fresh and I wanted to see if I could see the cat. I followed them around the brush, and eventually ended up in a full circle right where I started... its tracks going right over the top of the ones I had just made. Being only 14 and only carrying a stupid .22 revolver I decided it was time to head home for the day

A small town in CA close to my cabin is posting pics of mt lions taken locally with a depredation permit. They have four in the last six months all within about 10 miles of the cabin.
(rant on)
I think a petition to relocate mt lions across the state with an equal geographic distribution is appropriate. It's the city slickers that have caused the ban on lion hunting, they should share the results of their decision. LA has some parks that would support about six lions apiece. What with the dogs, cats, squirrels, homeless, dopers, gangbangers and tree huggers the lions should get fat and multiply. Share the wealth is my motto. (rant off)

When ever a jogger or bike rider from the city got attacted by a cat on their trails in the suburbs I always rooted for the cat...Go Cougar, Go

I wonder what kind of disposition a lion that got addicted to meth addicts would have. Talk about a speed hunter!
