Wow... +7.8 million guns affected. Bet it takes a very long time to get that back-log addressed.

I've never had an issue with any of my Model 700s.

This recall was earlier this year. The also just announced another one on their new injected molded pump shotguns.

Are you sure? From the article:

Quote::
Meanwhile, Remington's replacement for the Walker trigger, dubbed the X-Mark Pro, has had issues of its own. Earlier this year, Remington recalled thousands of X-Mark Pro models manufactured since 2006, after determining that "excess bonding agent used in the assembly process" could cause the guns to unintentionally discharge. But the company continued to resist a much broader action involving the 700 series rifles, until now

The earlier recall is for the rifles with the XMP triggers. This new recall is for all produced M700's.

Dallan, you are correct. I went back and checked. Thanks for keeping us updated.

I've got a 700 that fell under the first recall of the X-Mark triggers and now another that falls under this new recall. I'm thinking that I might just put Timneys in them.

Hummmm. Beginning to think my choice of Browning was a very good one.

We have 6 Remington 700's, thousands of rounds fired through them... never had an incident.

The videos on youtube showing this have their triggers adjusted to the lowest amount of pull, probably a major factor.

Remington's official response:

Remington Correction of CNBC Reporting

December 06, 2014

Yesterday afternoon, CNBC erroneously reported that Remington Arms was recalling 7.85 million rifles. This report was fundamentally inaccurate and, once again, CNBC did not comply with the most basic tenet of reporting – fact checking. Even a cursory review of the court filings would have revealed CNBC’s errors. That said, other news sources picked-up and repeated the misinformation about the proposed settlement. In response, the Plaintiffs’ counsel immediately took steps to correct CNBC’s inaccuracies by clarifying the terms of the proposed settlement in their own press release, which, in part, stated:

These settlements are not recalls.
These settlements are not any admission that the products are defective or unsafe.

This economic settlement provides an avenue for consumers, who have certain Remington rifles, to voluntarily have a new trigger installed. As noted by the Plaintiffs, the benefits provided by the settlement will not be in place until after court approval.

Remington is issuing this press release today because it is important that the terms of the proposed economic settlement be accurately described, as Remington does not want its customers to be confused or misled.

Further, and contrary to CNBC’s story, it is undisputed that the Remington Model 700 is the best-selling American-made, bolt-action rifle of all time. The Model 700 has also been and continues to be the tactical sniper rifle of choice for the U.S. armed forces and special operators and is widely used by state and federal law enforcement agencies.

Scratch This whole thing is confusing. If it is simply a bit of glue wouldn"t it just be a matter of cleaning? I don't own any Remington bolt rifles. The whole accidental discharge problem they had with the 600 and its successors turned me away. My hunting companion had one that went off as he was unloading it. I have used the 700 as bear protection rifle during operations in northern areas where polar bears are a risk. It was a fine rifle although it kicked a bit in. 300 magnum. We changed over to a semi-auto shotgun as it was quicker and could be loaded with both lethal and scare shells.

Bingo, a few years back I sent 2 M700 rifles for trigger replacement and they have worked just fine as did the original triggers. I made just put Timneys in the rifles.

The original triggers in the model 700's would fail to hold if the friction plate rusted between it and the sear. This was not a defect it was a maintenance problem. The new trigger group used an adhesive between the two pieces to prevent rust (making a more idiot proof gun) it was unfortunate that some of the first rifles using this trigger had excessive application of the adhesive which could have caused problems with the sear engagement. Current production quality assurance prevents this from happening again.

The model 700 continues to be a reliable and safe firearm for all involved. The press is just going after the big guys in the gun industry.

If you tell a lie long enough, loud enough, and to enough people it becomes a fact - not the truth but a fact none the less.
