Due to be commissioned in 2008, The USS New York's stem bar (part of the bow) was cast from steel salvaged from the World Trade Center.

A magnificent ship. God Bless her and keep safe all who sail on her.

Her motto really is "never forget", so I borrowed it for the poem.

Just look at the 'pitchers' Bushy... should be used to that... hey! no staple even! Very Happy

Aah...The modern ships tend to look ugly to me. Not (and Vince will agree) enough guns bristling from her. Ya got to remember. I retired off a wooden ship. Here it comes now... ROFL I can see it...Clear as day..."He is old. ROFL Wooden ships had sails didn't they?" Well my wooden ship had Packard diesels on her and she was 172 feet long. She was an ocean mine sweeper...The USS Pledge (MSO-492)...

Bushmaster,

Neat a Mine sweeper ship. Guess they had to make it out of wood so mines dont want to get attached to it. Smile

You know they sold your ship to Taiwan for just over 21,000$ in 1994. Shocked

Ya looked her up did ya...She's made of wood because there are three types of mines she had to deal with. The most dangerous for her were "contact" mines. Hence her shallow draft and near surface sonar. "Acoustic" mines. She never sounded like a war ship. And "magnetic" mines. Hence the wood hull.

Hey Bushmaster;

I went and took a little tour of the Pledge too. The site has 32 pics of her, some of her crew, some unit patches and some fine comments on the Pledge and crew as well.

I enjoyed this little glimpse of her past... and yours. Howdy

A damn fine looking vessel Bushy. Didn't see your moniker on the Crew List though.

Yeah GroovyJack...They tend to get a might personal on ocasion. I would have list 10 ships, tugs and tenders for my 22 years. I have no idea where they are all at at this moment.
