just north of Timaru there is a monument to OUR race horse Phar lap. He was bred and born out there. at the farm gates of a few properties they have signs naming there humble abodes.
PHAR is pronounced FAR
there is phar cough
phar canal
phar kin oath
and more I cant think of right now I will have another look next time Im out that way (if those theiving Aussies havent pinched them too)

Born and bred in NZ....maybe...but his true qualities were realised and bought to the fore here in OZ. Tommy Woodcock made sure he was well trained.

I won't go into his untimely demise though...poor bugger.
