I just got a used Factory Rem smooth bore / rem choke / Cantilever scope mount barrel for my 1100. Do any of you guys no what type of of rings to use. It has what appears to be a 3/8" rail I no 22 tip off rings are 3/8 but they don't look like they would fit properly. The rail has two slots aprox 4 1/8 apart that would appear to be for a weaver type ring. Any help would be appreciated..
Joe

I've never seen a Cantilever scope mount that did not use standard Weaver Rings for a Remington Shotgun.

Should use standard rings, there just aren't many options for placing the rings since the only place to mount the standard rings are where the slots are.

That is very odd. Your sure its actually meant for a scope to be mounted to it?

I am at a loss, can't seem to find any information on it sorry. Sad

However B-Square does make 3/8" scope rings.

All I can figure is it's not the factory cantilever.. I have a email to the guy I got from Im waiting on a responce.. I think Im screwed though without taking it to a smith and have him change it or adapt it I think fixin it is above my pay grade. I hate gettin the raw end of a deal Mad . I guess I should have researched more maybe I would have caught it before I bought it.. Live and Learn.. Any suggestions on options would be appreciated..

I do believe you may have one of the first production cantilever barrels that would have been made in the early 90's.
I'm with the others in thinking it should be a standard Weaver mount !!!

We have a local guy that's more knowledgeable on Remington's than most, if you can't figure anything out I'll try getting a hold of him to see what he might know.

Is it possible that the screw holes fore and aft of the slots are to screw-on a weaver base or bases (or Leupold)? Might that be the easy way out unless the prior owner already had special rings for it?

Thats what I was thinking. The prior owner isn't gonna be any help.. I guess Ill talk to a smith about having something attached to the top if possible.

Thanks chambered feel free to ask your guy maybe he cn tell us something we don't no. Thanks
Joe

I just dropped it off at the gun smiths I took it in and he started laughing ( not a good thing ) He said "what the hells that" He had no idea what kind of rail was on it but he say's he can adapt a weaver mount to the top of the existing rail and make it right. Im gonna have more money it than I wanted but it was a paper weight the way it was . I guess I should have done some home work on the barrel before I went to buy it.. Thanks for your help Guys Very Happy

Joe

Joe, Got a hold of the Remington guy.......he knew exactly what I was talking about.

You have one of the first cantilever barrels that Remington produced. They had a company make the rings specific to that application and they havn't been avalible for some time now. He couldn't remember the name of the company though. He has tried buying them on the used market with no luck.......they've disapeered. (not that they were in abundance to begin with)

Sorry for the bad news !!!
