Ithaca Model 37 problem

When I was growing up in a rural area, small game hunting and shotguns were a popular topic. The Winchester Model 12s and Remingtons Model 870s had their loyal owners and advocates. However, it was the Ithaca Featherweight pump shotguns that caught attention. To this day, I have to examine every Ithaca Model 37 that I see in the used gun racks. I was in a gun shop yesterday and one of the clerks I know very well went into the back of the gun shop area and reappeared carrying a pump shotgun. He said it just came in on a trade and he thought I should have it. Turns out it was a mint condition 16 gauge from about 1970 with interchangeable barrels (the earlier Model 37s had the barrels custom fitted to the receivers and were not interchangeable). It was cheap because it was a 16 gauge, full choke and has a plain barrel. No matter, I brought it home. That is my problem, I am attached to Ithaca Model 37s. Take care...

So what's the problem - an addiction to Model 37s is a sign of good judgement, not a problem.
NICE that the 16 gauges are cheap. They shoot great!

The problem could be he already has to many and has no more room in the safe or under the bed.

Or JB could be like my friend who had all his guns out to rearrange his safe. He had them spread out all over the master bedroom. His wife walked in, took a look around, and told him he was done! Now he has to sneak new guns home when she is not there. Darn that addiction!

Dang, nice score. 16ga was the king of swing for a long while. The 37 was an epic pump then too. I LOVE classic pumps and pumps in general.

I agree with SJ, send it my way, I've got room for it and no wife.

My first real shotgun and far and away the best I've owned.
Mine was a vent ribbed Deluxe model in 12 ga. I saved a couple years of paper route money for that thing. You have to love a shotgun that you could shoot right or left handed and not have the empties flying in your face. My buddies in the duck blind loved that.

Interesting posts, but while I no longer have any of my former wives, I still have the first Ithaca Model 37 that I ever bought. In fact, I saw another lovely 16 gauge yesterday and put it on layaway. The prices are $250 for these mint condition used shotguns. Not bad when you consider that a new Ithaca Model 37 goes for around $1,000. Take care...

good score. now find a reloading kit and the price of ammo will be less than for the 12ga. and you can put together what ever you like.

Yep! guns stick around longer than wives... they are never jealous when you bring home a new one (which is why the wives leave) and they are always ready for more - which is why you are not sad that the wives left.
