Howdy Folks!
I grew up here in Utah and wandered the mountains and west desert with pop until I lost him when I was 17. Back then were the "good ol' days" when 30" mulies were the norm, the Ogden/Farmington bay skies turned black with waterfowl at dawn, the ringnecks and doves provided many a fine meals, and elk were just a dream. How things have changed.
Been chasing mulies and wiley blacktail in Calif since 1979 when the Airforce took me there to stay. My old stomping grounds for upland game are now covered in towns and cities, and one needs a reservation to camp in the Uinta's...hmmm!
But it is good to be home. I look forward to pushing these old legs back up the mountains and wading the streams of my youth again. I'm sure that when the quakies are sprinkled with a dusting of gold, and the cool fall breeze shivers down my spine, new memories will be made to join those of days gone by... Looking foward to tossing out some tidbits here and there, and picking up some good ones from you as well!

Welcome to the site Stillhunter,
I know what you mean about your description of Utahs glory days. Its sad how it all went to pot.
What part of the Utah west desert did you hunt? I spent ALOT of time out there hunting, mostly around the River Bed and Black Death Canyon areas. That grain farm out there used to be run by some really good friends of the family. The dove hunting was incredible.
Anywho welcome,
-DallanC

Welcome mate!
When i reminisce about how things used to be, i find it helps to remind myself that to the new generation that follows, today, for them is the beginning of the good old days, some time long into their future. It's not much but it helps me to enjoy today, what's left of it, to the maximum!
Cheers erny.

Thanks for the very warm welcome! Nothing like a cold frothy one, a comfy stump to sit on, and a fire to warm yer soul!
Slimjim: Am living up in Salt Lake City for now, don't much care for city living but it will have to do for the moment!
DallanC: Growing up, Dad took me out to a lot of places in the West Desert, can't remember them for sure, but I believe we went from Grantsville areas down south along the Stans, on west and east sides and some places so isolated I'm sure the spirits of hunters passed roamed there! Yeah, the Dove hunting was pretty damn fine in areas out there...
Suz: Indian...would that I were! Think you are right, the west is part of my bones and spirit for sure! Be it the Rockies, the Sierra's, or the vast Deserts and Badlands, I have truely been haunted by them since childhood!
Vince: Yeah, sometimes I tend to wax on a bit, but it is always from deep within!
Again, thanks so much for the welcome! Truely look forward to sharing stories and such here! Now, on to the suds, lol...

You will find MANY on here who regardless of location share your "longings" of past times or more appropriately I think, haunts. I am finding myself doing that more and more as I watch Adrian growing here in the "city' and not out in the country side where you can go and shoot frogs or just sit under a tree or climb it and no-one gets mad at you for doing it!!!
It is going to be a good place for you to hang out, and I think you will like it here! It has been a place of refuge and also a place where I can come to help me stay "balanced" when this mean old nasty world seems to want to eat me for breakfast!!!! There are a TON of GOOD folks on here!!! And if you ever have a problem don't be to "proud" to open up about it!!! You may be surprised what happens next!!! I been "comforted" and renewed on more than one occasion!!!!
This is rare thing in this world now-a-days!!!
Oh and mpst importantly: WELCOME!!!!! from this ol' coyote chaser from SWIowa, to one of the best places on the net for folks like us!!!

Thanks Arron. Your post is one of the main things that attracted me to this place. The warm friendly nature of the folks on here. We ALL care deeply about hunting but on many of the other forums, it would seem that passion has been reduced to constant bickering, rude name calling if one disagrees with a certain position, blame for declining herds being cast on everyone but the reflection in the mirror, and the NEED to kill only huge "trophy" sized animals.
I still think there is a silent majority of hunters out there that take this passion of ours as it has been for many, many years and enjoy it for what it is...
Soooooo, yep, I think I just might enjoy this place a whole lot!
