Slim, I'm afraid the SIG 556 will have to wait awhile. It was about 3.5x as expensive as the .22 LR. It has replaced the AR on my wish list though.

I looked at this one last week...

I think it's gonna be the next one I take home.

Looks good but weights 2 pounds (30%) more than an AR and more than double the cost. Makes me appreciate the simplicity of the AR design. Hard to believe it is 50 years old already.

I'm not worried 'bout the weight.

Cost wise, it's right in line with the Ruger SR-556 (OK, a couple bucks more).

Changed my mind from olive drab back to black and a different stock for the new AR I'm building so took all the OD components and transferred them over to my AR .22LR. I've really been given this .22 a work out and enjoy shooting it. It's great practice for the AR's that are its big brother. Settled on a simple 2x scope that lets me do close quarter drills.

I've notice, with all the rounds I've been putting through the AR .22LR, the mil-spec trigger has improved significantly in its feel. So I've started swapping out any new triggers into the AR .22LR and take the one that is "broken in" out and place that in the new AR I'm building. Just did that last night with this new build. It has the prior trigger from the AR .22LR with about 1500 cycles on it and installed the brand new trigger group in the .22LR to start its break-in.

I installed a Weaver 1-3x this week and took the S&W M&P .22LR to the range. Its a nice combination. 1x is a true one power and I can use two-eyes open to practice close quarter drills - much better than the fixed 2x Simmons that was on it before. 3x gives me some magnification for longer ranges and small game. You can get these scopes for around $160 which is pretty reasonable. This one should stay mounted for a while.
