|
On my trip to GA I got a little more info on a piece of my wife's family history from a few generations back. I had heard this story a year or so ago from my mother in law's 78 year old cousin but learned on this trip the gun used was the .38-40 talked about in a previous post.
It wasn't talked about when she was younger but one day Grandma was talking about getting her younger children back from the orphanage so she was asked why it was they were in there. Grandpa it turns out was in jail for 1 year for doin' what needed to be done and Grandma couldn't feed them all. A daughter had married a no account who would beat her. This went on and the man would not change his ways so a meeting was held. Grandpa took his .38-40 and did what needed to be done to trash like that. Daughter was a widow and grandpa got 1 year in jail for doing what a father needed to do.
The cousin's younger brother still has the gun. Don't know if there really is 1 notch in the gun or if the brother was kidding.
Don't want to give the name of the departed in case there is any family of his out there who might take offense to the facts as set forth.

I've heard of something in legal circles referred to as "The Texas Defense".
"Yes, Your Honor, I shot him, but, he needed killin".......

I have a problem with one year! He should have been patted on the back, his hand shaken and sent home.
People like those who beat there loved ones are scum! they need removed from society. Any folks like that, need removed from society the permanent way.
I guess that explains my avatar!

When I was just a kid in Missouri there was a new comer living in our neck of the woods.
His step daughter of about 14 came crying to my grandma. Seems her step dad decided he would rape her.
Five men took that feller to the middle of a field full of broom sage. (four feet tall) There was an old Cottonwood stump in the middle. They taken a 20 penny nail and bent it across his privates, stuck a sharp knife in the stump, and lit the edge of the field. (bout a 5 acre field).
The five went home after they were sure the fire wouldn't get out, and next day there was blood on the stump, but no one ever saw the guy again.
The woman and child spent several years there and never went hungry.
Justice wears many names.

Only thing I see wrong is he should have used a baseball bat because you can use it tomorrow without reloading the hull.
