Obama walks into a bar with a parrot on his shoulder.

The bartender asks, "Where did you get that?"

" Africa . . . they're all over the place!", said the Parrot.

In my country the parrot answers: "Don't know, but it started with an ulcer on my butt" Smile

Welcome Aloysius, drag up a stump and a cold one. Where are you from, by the way?
Best,
Ed

The flemish speaking part of Belgium, the land of beer, chocolat, too much politicians and nowadays too little FN. But we still like a good laugh and I discovered here a good spot to do it. Welcome Aloysius!

Belgium huh? I've been trying to find the location of a WW2 airfield there! It was a British or Canadian Spitfire base in Oct. 1944. My Dad was a B-26 copilot and here is his diary entry:

"October 2, ’44 – 9th mission - Bombed strongpoints in Holland - Flak damage - Made forced landing at Lecolot, Belgium (20-30 miles SE of Brussels) Spent night in Brussels"

Dad told me that they were about to crash, after flak knocked out one engine, when they saw a Spitfire climbing out after takeoff and were able to make the airfield. I've figured out that Dad's spelling was off, the town is apparently Le Culot. Would you happen to know anything about the area?

Ah, We, old paratroopers, have a very special association with and good feelings for the people of Belgium. In my case, as a former sargent in the 101st Airborne Division, I know exactly where several small towns are located, including one where 7 roads intersect, it is called Bastone. Our guys spent an interesting Christmas there one year, enjoying the winter sports. Very Happy

When I was hunting in South Africa, the group that was at the lodge before our group were from Belgium. We got to meet them just before they left. Nice folks.

Not a bad hijack Mike.
Best,
Ed

As long as we keep Vince's parrot on top of the thread, he might understand and forgive?

@Mike: with a little luck I might be able to help you.
It's quite modern to delegate work Smile , so I mailed your question to my future son-in-law who is still studying history at the university of Leuven but who is also a real freak in WO II stuff and was recently asked to join a team that digs up crashed WO II-airplanes.
I'll keep you informed.

By the way, your dad had the right spirit: bomb those stingy dutchmen and make a returnstop for some good beer, steak and french fried in Belgium Smile

EDIT: I have to admit that some of my best friends are netherlandish, but that doesn't mean we don't try to laugh with eachother.

And is this fast?
(I think he still likes to be a part of our family Smile )

I'll try to translate for you:

The old name of the airfield in Bevekom or Beauchevain is "Le Culot". You can still find this airfield South to Leuven (or Louvain, depending you have a french map or a flemish). I looked on the internet and folowing links could be already interesting for that person:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...n_Air_Base
www.baha.be/Webpages/N...echain.htm

There should also excist a book: PIED, Robert, Beauchevain, "Le Culot" 1935-1945 Flugplatz/Airfield, 1998.
But he couldn't find more than the title and the writer.

When he can find more interesting things, he will mail them but maybe when you start looking for "Beauchevain", you will find yourself more than you need.

And sorry Vince, but where should one put such info on a hunting-forum?
Maybe with mod's help?

No problems with the hijack Aloysius, Punkin is good at it, but only with good reason...it happens regularly here...but its a bit like a normal conversation anywhere mate...we wander off on a tangent and gradually find our way back on topic.

Check out this lat / long position on Google Earth Punkin: 50 deg 45' 25.21" N 4 deg 45' 59.01" E

Thanks Vince! Looking at a satellite photo I noticed odd "pock marks" in the grass at the southern end of the airport. Hmmm! Old bomb craters?

I gotta admit that I wasn't TOO worried about hijacking as this thread was, after all, about a joke.
