Ok Huntingnuts here is the deal!

I will donate $.25 per person, maximum 100 people a month or $25.00 a month to the Huntingnut Treasury for the following:

When you go to the range or into the woods carry a trash bag with you and pick up trash it’s that simple. It must be disposed of properly. Let me know where when and how many bags. The average 30 gallon tall kitchen bag will hold approx 15 to 18 lbs of trash that equates to approximately 1500 to 1800 lbs of trash a month 18,000 to 21,600 lbs a year scary huh almost 11 tons of trash removed from the woods were we hunt, fish, hike relax and hold fond memories. Example went out hunting today for squirrels and walked 13.5 miles picked up 18 beer cans or bottles 8 empty cigarette packs 3-1 gallon water bottles 9 empty burger king pop glasses 4 empty burger king bags with empty product wrappers in them and the list goes on one hunt one bag of trash. What I take in comes back out plus.
Any takers??? I will do this for a period of 1 year, starting November 1st , 2009 ending October 31st 2010. If the goal of 1200 bags of trash for the year is met $300.00 will be donated for the next year’s Treasury (all of 2011) in a lump sum…………………

Savagenut,

No need to donate any cash for me...

I already pick up any trash I find in the woods.

I was taught to "Leave it cleaner than you found it" by my Grandfather at an early age....

That's a nice idea but I agree I was raised to do that. Did a lot of camping when I was younger and was taught that what you pack in you pack out and always take away extra. Hate how people leave the woods. The concept that it's biodegradable just doens't work, it can take years if it's got any kind of was/plastic coating. I always take out other's trash. Now at the range my dad already does that, he takes the trash and puts it in the right cans, and keeps the brass. Very Happy

That is a magnificent gesture on your part Savage...I'm proud of ya mate.

I'm like the others...I learned as a child from my parents who were ardent campers, then it was reinforced to the extreme when I was in the Army.

Leave the area as you found it.
Collect and remove all rubbish and anything non-natural.
Do not bury anything, except that noted below. Embarassed
Leave nothing but footprints.
These days, the only thing I leave behind will do the land good anyway. Fart

They tell me that the bacteria in the ground turns it into good nourishment for the soil after a couple of weeks anyway.

Cheers, Vince

Thanks for the input guys. I was taught the same by my father and grandfather was also drilled into me in the scouts (made it to eagle) its just so frustrating to go into the woods and see the disreguard that some people have for the land that they are temporary stewards of I'm not a tree hugger Its just an observation from hunting on state lands................

I'm with Hunterjoe21...I was taught and I taught my kids to take out more then you take in...

Nothing like riding in three days and finding a beer or soda can alongside the trail. They can pack a 12 oz can in, but can't carry a 2 oz crushed can out...

My place is kept spotless, including spent shells. My wife and I actually drive the roads in front of the house, about a half mile each way to pick up roadside trash. We have beautiful country here and we want to keep it that way. My only problem is trash that has been washed down the creek during floods. That I can't control, except to clean it up once it gets here.

We're finally getting some rain in the country south of San Antonio. It's rained about 6 inches over a 30 day period. The grass is trying to come back from the two year drought. I've pulled the cattle off the home place and moved them to a rested pasture down the road. Another week or 10 days, and I'll drive them back. There’s nothing like driving half-blood Brahma cattle to get your blood to pumping.

Hey Bushy!!!

Yes, I'm alive! Just really busy.

I told my mother the other day that I thought that life got easier when you get older. She just gave me a grin and said that it does, but what little that you do, just gets harder to do!!

I'm still checking in with you guys every now and then.

I didn't get your letter! I guess it got hung up in the wire somewhere. I used to blame it on the 7 miles of gopher chewed on phone lines that I have coming to the house, but....since I got the satellite dish on the roof....I'll have to blame it on the Russians, or maybe some little green men intercepting my emails!!

What is this "trash" you speak of?

I keep everything in my pack or jacket that goes in with me. I even police my brass/shells when I am out in the fields or bush.

Well Dimitri I'm not saying that any of us on this websit do leave behind articles of intrest in the woods but there are those who do. Example Cedar Creek ATV trails and hunting area located in Twin Lakes Michigan Sunday October 25, 2009: Burger king napkins bags burger wrappers straws plastic cups empty cigarette packs gum wrappers empty water bottles beer bottles beer cans sixpack plastic wrappers tires a washer and dryer Mcdonalds wrappers boxes glasses coffee cups straws napkins glass bottles empty cans of vegtables and meat products poptart wrappers and the list goes on these items were located in the woods 5 1/2 miles from the trail head not in one pile but all over the woods hunted a trail that is 14 miles long in a area that incompasses 26 square miles answer yor question?

Savage I realize that, but I am lucky in that sense, when I go into the bush its either private property or no-ATV/snowmobile access which limits the people who try going into that area cause they are too lazy to hike/pack in with their only bodies being the only thing to bring things into the area.
