Experimentation can take many forms, but, to obtain meaningful data in max pressure tests, a piezo strain gauge would be an asset. I have no problem with max pressure tests and have conducted numerous ones over the years. It is important to differentiate between such testing and real world reloading.

I use a piezo on some rifles for strain testing and correlating loads and pressures as well as the affect of variables. When conducting such tests, all firing is done remotely and from a distance.

I guess all that remains is a simple question...."Why??"

Through the roof? Along with the chrony and, the breech?

I think you passed the point of diminishing returns before things Kaboomed.

Interesting post though. Never actually knew someone that tested FA's to failure, multiple times. Shocked

And what do you do for income? Rob banks? Them's some expensive fire-works. Confused

He is a gunsmith, probably has a stack of old rifles from past customers he could try this on, after all its only his time right?

Remington's M700 will hold up better then a Pre-64 Winchester, I'd be willing to bet the farm on that (if I had a farm that is). This has been shown before to be the case.

This is one of the reasons the USMC adopted the M700 over the Winchester that was claimed to be superior, and its also one of the reasons up until the new M24 chambered in 338 Lapua were never installed with that well "loved" Sako (or M16) extractor many claim is a "must" on M700 rifles due to "extractor problems".

But we need pictures. Or atleast I don't see them and wont till tomorrow morning when I am at a cafe with high speed. Laughing

Ok Allan, well I'd love to see the damage. If you have a scanner, you could scan pictures you made at a photo-developer with your 35mm camera.

I'm surprised at you . We collect and shoot GEW 88's and antique firearms and never blew one up

Allen you could put some photos in an envelope and send them to some other forum user that could scan them for you. (me for instance)

Otherwise, there are a lot of mobile phones nowaday that have camera in them.
So you could also use them.

Million and one way to skin cats (or blow up guns) mate!
