just tried my hand ar reloading 9mm cast bullets.. using 4.5 gr of bullseye by alliant.. had somewhat higher recoil than factory winchester and federal range shells. good pattrn at 35 yards though.any other recipes y'all use and had good luck. i'm not gonna be runnin a lot thru the barrel ,but what is a good cleaning agent to cut the lead.. oh yeah; has anyone else had any good powders to suggest. i have unique and i have the bullseye.. i looked in three manuals b4 i decided my starting charge Laughing

Everyone has their favorites for removing lead, but I have had excellent luck using Kroil (available through Brownell's, among other places). Run it through on a loose fitting wet patch, let it sit for a few minutes, and then run a tight patch through. You might have to do it a couple times or even use a bronze brush, but it works well. Be sure to clean the bore thoroughly between shooting jacketed bullets and lead...lead kind of like to cling to copper fouling.

I shoot a lot of hard cast bullets in 9mm and other calibers. Mostly, I use Unique powder and really like it.

Removing lead from the bore is not difficult. My preferences are Remington Bore Cleaner on a piece of cloth around a brush. Plan B is JB Bore Cleaner on a brush. Plan C is a piece of Lead Wiping Cloth on a brush. All are followed by solvent patches, dry patches and an oil patch. If these do not remove the leading, it is not coming out. Take care...

I use 4.1 gr of Bullseye for my loads of 9mm cast Round Nose. Works great. No misfeeds or misfires.

LWBuDD,,,,whar grain bullet you loadin' 115 grain? loaded 4.3 of bullseye and has a little x-tra recoil but not unbearable .i'd say it carries a little x-tra whallop on the bullet recieving end too lol

If your looking for soft easy to control recoil go to a 147 grain bullet with a slower burning powder !!!

not worried about the recoil ,just wondered about the pressure of cast bullets .. shot 5 with 4.5 gr. of bullseye and a little more recoil than i want but no pressure signs ,so i tried 10 of 4.3 gr of bullseye and was really accurate at 25 to 30 yds. . gonna try the suggestion i got of 4.1 gr of bullseye and see what that does to the accuracy i'm gettin' now . then i'll make a plan on what works best in the 9mm

loaded and shot 20 115 gr 9mm with the cast bullets and 4.1 grain of bullseye.. accuracy and grouping went all to hell.. guess i'll stick with the 4.3 grain load .. guess thats what reloadin's all about. tried and true recipes , huh' thank's all

One last bit of advice for bore cleaning.
I shoot cast for almost all of my pistols, and Butch's Bore Shine really works for me.

I just ordered some Butch's as my Hoppe's reserve is dwindling, and, I'm always looking for something new.

Plus I'm burned out on that cat-puke smell of Hoppe's. Had a small (plastic- WTH?, what happened to the glass ones?) bottle piss past the cap seal in a range back on the drive home. Trashed my truck seat, bag, got pretty much everywhere:-x...used to like it, but, the smell of the stuff turns my gut now.....

Them cheese-n-cracker things w/ the lil red stick and pork-n-beans remind me of rabbit and quail hunts with Pop.

Cosmoline and oiled OD canvas smells take me back too....

Some old cast bullet shooters I know us Kerosene to remove lead from the bore,they just run a saturated brush up and down the bore a few times let it set a little then push it out with a saturated tight patch. Mineral spirits was also mentioned as an alternative.

I don't have much leading troubles but next time I clean after shooting lead I'm going to give it a try and see how it works.

Kerosene and mineral spirits act as a penetrant !!! They will work, just not as good as Kroil and others that are on the market.
