Yes...I didn't have any gun training until I was 26 years old and I started shooting when I was 8 or 9. I owned my first gun when I turned 18 and owned 4 firearms before I ever had any gun training of any kind. I didn't turn out so bad...

And Yes I do have a CCW for my state that is good in 36 other states, but I don't worry about being on any list. I've been on that particular list ever sense I started frequenting this and other boards. What's the difference? What's the big deal about having a CCW or not having a CCW? I will state that I am against the state making us register and prove that we have had training. My REAL CCW is the 2nd Amendment...I have had a CCW for a little over 2 years and I have carried for a little over 40 years...

My point to this was going to be, some people get these permits to stay legal and not become the criminal !!!

It’s not about being brainwashed !!! Although I do admit a line needs to be drawn somewhere.

Dimitri, I don’t disagree with safety, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.
Who is the government to say/determine if I’m allowed to attempt to defend myself or family.

Chambered,

I agree with stayin' legal, and especially with NOT bein' the crook...

I will disagree with anyone that considers any type of "registration" acceptable.....

Even though I have purchased several guns through FFL dealers, and am on a 'LIST" somewhere, at this point, "I" (read as ME, MYSELF, and I) am the only person who is absolutely sure IF any guns are present in my house. There is NO government database that can be certain if any guns I purchased are still in my possession.

NICS has been a compromise thus far......

The gun-grabbers would prefer to know where EVERY firearm is...

For no other reason than to grab it when it suits their purpose...

If the private sale of weapons is moved to the NICS system, imagine the data provided to the administrators of THAT system.....

I'm gonna go back to this, 'cause it bothers me on several levels...

So WTF are you supposed to defend yourself with??? and how long will it be until they make "it" illegal? or maybe in "your" world, the GOVERNMENT will defend you....good luck with that...

Many better men then me have defended themselves successfully without the use of firearms.

I know as a whole many feel a firearm is the end all be all for defense but its not. It may be the easiest way, but its not the only way nor is it necessarily the "best" way to do it.

As for your government comment well I think your talking to the wrong person. As if I was to ever move to the US for example I'd be getting myself a CCW. Your talking about someone else perhaps? Confused

So you're the guy that's bringin' the knife to a gunfight....

I will defend myself, my family and my property with any means available. A gun may not be the first choice, it may be the only choice, but whether to ust it or not will be MY choice....

In my yes short 21 years on this planet I find that 95% (roughly there is the odd time) I am provoked or "pushed" into a situation the other party backs down when I hold my ground. I never brought a weapon to a fight, never needed one actually. Whether or not they were involved in "gangs" or some other such non-sense.

But your mileage may vary. Confused

Whenever I do any job I use the best tool for that job. I don't hammer nails with a wrench, I don't turn screws with pliers, etc. When and if I have to defend myself and/or my family I will use the best tool currently available for the job, a firearm. It may not be the first choice in a given situation but there is no better LAST choice available.

Self defense is not a game and it's not macho “I’m tougher than you” BS. I've never needed a gun in a fight either, and hope I never do. I’ve also almost never used the fire extinguisher, first aid kit and tool kit that I keep in my car either. But I can about guarantee that I'll have all four items handy should the situation arise. If you spend time worrying about what is the “best” first aid kit don’t you think you’d better equally prepared for your own defense?

When someone invents a foolproof Star Trek phaser at an affordable price I’ll try one but until then I’ll stick with my handguns, shotguns and rifles.

Mike,

Personally I think everyone in a position to get a CCW should get one and actually carry. But most importantly they need to practice. Cause a gun in the hands of someone who can't aim is useless.

I support CCW and the like. I am just saying a gun is not always whats needed for defense. Wink

I'm gonna go back to this, 'cause it bothers me on several levels...

So WTF are you supposed to defend yourself with??? and how long will it be until they make "it" illegal? or maybe in "your" world, the GOVERNMENT will defend you....good luck with that...

So again...

In Canada, what are you supposed to defend yourself with??

Guess you need to carry a cop...

It goes back to registering and needing to supply the GOVERNMENT with a REASON you want a gun. Recreational shooting, competition, hunting are all acceptable answers I suppose...

Guess I'd never get a gun up there, my answer would be

" 'Cause I f***in' want one"....(same answer I give my wife when she asks what I need another gun for)

BTW, I'm 6'1" and 235 pounds. Even though I try to avoid putting myself in compromising situations, and avoid confrontation as much as possible, I have had a gun pointed at me on several occasions. As stated before, I don't carry, and have thus far managed to diffuse these situations with no shots being fired. None of these situations happened when I had access to a gun (in my home, or outside of work), or I suspect there would have been a different outcome. Don't want anyone thinkin' I'm runnin' around out there playin "cowboy"....
