so the pressure goes up fast but maintains at that pressure for a longer period.

How is that remotely possible, your sure you just did not crimp the heck out of it and it didn't want to let go right?

The moment the bullet clears part way the case mouth, the leade of the rifle or pistol chamber allows extra gas to escape around the bullet as the bullet starts to engage the rifling to drop the pressure. Some firearms have more, some have less, but its critical that there is some leade in the chamber. Even match guns with very shot leades, and using 0.010" "jamming" length on the rounds to keep the bullet from "jumping" in the leade area still have some leade in the chambers. Shocked

So I really can't see how thats possible. Unless I am missing something? Confused

Dimitri

Fun people aren't they Eric. I've served with them, drank with them and transfered fuel and ammunition to their ships at sea...And I agree with you. But I do fear that it might go to their heads though... Very Happy

Ignorance, I can understand, foul mouth, I can tolerate
Bragging and stretching the truth.. well we all do that some.

But I do not joke about safety -
there are 7720 members here and maybe a few of the un-inspired ones may read this clown's technique and blow themself up.

All that may just because of one braggart ignorant impersonator were not told to behave.

So damianss if you are still here, the attached gun would be perfect for your load testing jig

I've kept this case for just over 30 years as a reminder to be careful when handloading. A buddy was "experimenting" with his .45 Auto loads. I can't remember the powder or charge. I do remember picking pieces of shrapnel out of the coat on the guy who pulled the trigger. Now I'm certainly not opposed to trying to improve things but you need to be careful when playing with stuff that can blow up.

That is one major blowout !!!

I’ve seen .40 cals. that haven’t blown that bad and they are a high pressure round !!!

I don’t think a fully supported barrel would have even helped with that one.

As far off center as the firing pin dent is, it looks like he might have had some headspacing and/or lockup problems too. Scary thing to have happen whatever the reason.
