Thanks all.
Definitely some food for thought there. Didn't know about the borax or baking soda. Figured there had to be a better way than grate in pure soap over the washing machine. I hang my hunting rig to dry/air for a few days also.
On smoking the clothes, I understand it works well in areas already hit by fire. Not always so good outside black zones.
A common theme seems to be the scent can't be completely eliminated. One of our domestic gun mags had a contributor who mentioned the use of a 50/50 mix of ti-tree/eucalyptus oil in an atomiser spray bottle. ( I found a sanitised bottle of spray on tan works great for the job) Obviously use tree oils applicable to your area.
Now I just need the time and a venue. I'll also give some serious thought to purchasing some other scent products.
Thankfully my hiding has only to do with creatures of the four legged variety. Two legged beasts generally don't smell too well.

By the way Vince, I FINALLY found some boots, - Danners, from a bloke called Vic who runs a pig hunting outfit in Mackay. I believe he advertises in Guns and Game, and an archery mag or two. Has some decent kit for sure. They're not cheap, but Danner doesn't put out crap to the best of my knowledge, otherwise they'd go t#$s up like so many other companies are now.
Also, if you're still looking for a pair of boots, a mob called LE Gear on the Gold Coast is selling Fire Ant boots in a Fawn Brown colour, all leather upper, brown sole, for about 185 last time I checked. They are steel caps, but as long as you're not going sub-alpine or sub-zero you should be fine. He may need to order in, but they'll be worth it. Uncle Kev bought me a pair this week. My last steel caps were bought by Uncle Johnny. They got resoled until they went to boot heaven on my last trip. Thank God the sole fell off WHILE I was taking them off!!

Once again people, thanks heaps for all the advice and help.

I never worry about scent, but I’m not into bow hunting, so I don’t have to get really close to my game. If I find that the wind is blowing down a sendero that I’m hunting, I’ll change to a more favorable position.

I know someone that heard apple scent will draw in deer, so he bought some. He sprinkled it in a select location around his feeder. The first deer to come in to the feeder smelled the apple scent, snorted, and ran off terrified. The problem here is that deer in this area have never smelled an apple! The best bait in this area is raw peanuts or pea screenings. This is a peanut and pea growing area; although, most people here use corn because it’s for sale everywhere. If I use peanuts, I will draw in every kind of animal in the area. Every critter eats peanuts.

Thanks for that Joe.

Well, I've learned something new today. I wasn't aware that deer, and I'm assuming that all deer vision is the same as whitetail, could see in the UV Spectrum.

Might just have to see if this stuff is available in Oz.

Cheers, Vince

Hey Buddy here's a couple articles on a deers ability to see in the uv spectrum
there pretty interesting.

Should look into that, alot of "steel toe" or "steel cap" (I am assuming your referring to one and the same) use special molded plastic now instead of steel. So if that's the case with those boots it will not have the same down sides like "real" steel toed boots have in the cold weather.

Hi all,

Hey Vince I use the sport wash not so much to cover up my scent but to eliminate adding the scent of laundry detergents and Deer are suppose to be sensitive to the UV spectrum and this has no UV brighteners and it's great for gortex and thinsulate insulation atsko products Joe

I go with Joe. SportWash. Available in WalMarts, but dunno about in Oz. Borax can be found here, also. It's been around since forever, so I would imagine it is available in the land down under, too.

Some coyote hunters swear by a little dab of Bengay on their boot sole.

Scent eliminator, attractant? nobody can say, but for some strange reason, they say it works.

Gelan, mighty hunter and modest human being that we all know him to be, Wink has it right. Downwind, and be sneaky.
