Hey Buddy Crackshot summed it up pretty good. If a Arrow isn't cut straight the insert that holds the broadhead can be off centered and compound the planing as well.

Ah, ok, I understand now. Thanks mate. I actually thought that it may have meant something similar.

One would imagine that if the arrow head, and the blade/s, are symetrical then the forces acting on each side of the head would be similar, or hopefully identical, and this would minimise any affect that the shape would have. I suppose the more learned in the ancient art of archery have no doubt found a way to make this planing work in their favour.

It can be quit a pain in the butt at times as well. Some fellas go out and spend thousands of dollars on a bow and arrows and put practice tips on their arrows with little thought to the broad head untill hunting season is close, then they go out and spend $$ on broadheads and just weight match them to their practise point and GO GO GO! Not paying to much attention on the way the blades are "Clocked" to the nock and shaft and they wonder why they have a pattern instead of a group on target.

Any thoughts on the carbon VS aluminum arrow shafts? I have finaly switched to carbon after 22 years of useing Easton XX75's. LOVE them! They are pretty expensive however.

I switched to the gold tips a few years back and won't go back to aluminum. I love the gold tips there alot faster than aluminum and if it aint broke it's straight .

I still use aluminum, 2317 Easton XX78 Superslams to be exact. I am just not convinced that carbon is better. Plus I have all the equipment to build the aluminum arrows, fletcher, cut off tool, etc. I have not been impressed with the lighter carbon arrows penetration ( as witnesssed by friends who use carbon ) as compared to heavier aluminum. The fact that there are weight tubes available to add to the inside of carbon shafts for increased penetration sort of proves this in my mind. Less than a month ago I shot a caribou at 96 yards with the XX78 and 125 grain Muzzy Phantoms, complete pass through even after angling through the shoulder, and arrow was stuck deep in the tundra. I figure if it aint broke, dont fix it !!

The thing I hate about aluminum is the fact that, If you miss your intended target, Hit a rock in the soil when it hits the ground, Its bent! All the tinkering in the world aint going to fix it.

I shoot broadheads. Everyone I talked to that used mechanicals said they had problems.

I have a excalibur cross bow.I bought that 2 years ago,and they dont recomend anything but muzzys,in fact they say the 100 gr,will shoot like a field point,And that it does.I do have to say I ruined my bolts in one off season,that I have ever done,with any arrow or other bolts,this thing will shoot bolts into the back of a bolt already sitting in the target,hard lesson,dont shoot at the same dot,with more then one bolt,
but i have shot reg,bows with reg fixed blades,any where from 100 to 135 gr,I did years ago have arrows plane,I just changed the shape of the point,went to a 4 blade instead of a 3 blade. in the same weight,
I have found for me,,NOW that for me,Muzzy shoot like field points,

But i watched all these outdoor shows ,,where they go to hunting outfitters,And lot of them are using then rage broad heads,so i guess they work well..
