Well if you're using the 3.5" in both guns dont think there is a performance difference , maybe slighty heavier shot charge in the 10 ga ..

Howdy Well i think there is a better selection of 12 ga shotguns and with the 3 1/2" imo thats enough gun to take care of most tasks. It all boils down to personal preference Rolling Eyes

Smile With all the advances in 12ga technology I truely believe that the 10ga has lost most of its edge. Although, I would still use my old Marlin Bolt 10ga if I ever get another chance to go after the big Canadians again in North Dakota. Something nostalgic with that loooooooong barrel and super full choke. The high fliers were suprised. Cool

You can't go wrong with a 12ga and 3 1/2 chamber for waterfowl. The gun's are lighter and cheaper then say a 10ga auto loader or pump. With today's
hi tech 12ga 3-3.5 inch loads you just can't go wrong. 10ga guns are big/heavy and swing like a 2x6.
on the other hand I do have a 10ga Nef single shot turkey gun, for turkey hunting. I will tell you this... it thumps hard on both ends !

From my experience I didn't notice much of a difference. I felt like perhaps in high wind situation's the 10 ga may have hit a little harder, but it is probably because of the larger shot load. Shooting Canadian's out west I use the Hevi Shot 3 1/2 inch #2's (1 1/2 ounce). This stuff is amazing. It may cost a lot for a box, but when you hit them they are dead. Instead of having to hit them a couple of times to bring them down, with steel. I feel like I am saving money in the long run, or at least that's what I tell my wife.

If anyone would ask me, IMO, I would say go with the 12 ga. without hesitation. At least you can use the 12 ga. for other gamebirds.

I use 12 gauge 3 1/2 , however I almost never used 3 1/2 shells until the end of the season as the birds have been shot at al the way down from Canada and tend to stay high.

Most of my ducks are brought down by 2 3/4 inch number 2 shot. Next up would be 3 inch BB.

I shoot wildfowl in Scotland and I use a 12 for duck and inland geese,and a 10 for coastal geese.The 10 is an Elderkins greylag s/s 3 1/2" chambers and 32" full/full barrels.
We have just changed to shooting with non tox near water courses but can still shoot inland with lead.

I like my 10 better than my 12, but I do not think there is much differenr anymore. I reload my own shells so I beleive that I get more out of mine rather than a factory load.
