Out here in Australia brown nosing goes by many names...A$$ kissing, butt licking, snivelling, crawling, pole smokin'...each and every one of them terms is usually derogagtory and to accuse someone of it generally results in a "knuckle sandwich" being delivered with much ferocity. However, it depends on who is saying it, how he says it and who he is saying it to...it can be said as a joke or with "tongue in cheek".
