Anyone make it ?? Confused

I bought a small little plastic 7 tray food dehydrator from Bass Pro, was only 45$ and its made in the USA. Figured I couldn't go wrong.

Anyways, I put 2 small tupaware containers of thiner deer meat (the deer were gotten Saturday) with alot of pepper, some salt and the rest was Canadian Club Whiskey as my seasoning so its "all natural". Very Happy Can't wait till the end of the week to try it out! Cool

What you think ?? Shocked

Dimitri

Howdy Dimitri. I make it all the time , my daughter loves it. I use a mix from Cabelas, High Mountain Cures I mostly use the " original recipe" sometimes the mesquite one, there both very good and easy to use. I make mine out of ground deer burger and use a jerky shooter I like it better than using cut strips I think the burger is easier to season evenly. Either way deer jerky is hard to beat Very Happy

Joe,

Ground deer burger jerky is easier for someone to chew as its not one big piece you need to keep "ripping" ?? Confused

It might be a little easier to chew. When you use a jerky shooter you can make pieces as long as you wish. The shooter is pretty much a caulk gun with different tips mine has round opening tips for making " slim jim style" or a flat opening tip to make strips. I make strips, the shooters work very well Very Happy .

I agree with Joe. I am working on a batch today infact. The Jerky shooter works well. I cheat and use a mix also. Kids love it. If I don't have any wild game sometimes I will buy a few roasts on sale, run them through my meat slcer and make it that way. Either way it's good. Experiment and have fun eating.

We also use the High Mountian cures for jerky. Use mesquite in the smoker to finish it off-tr

I have used "home" recipes in the past, but lately have just been buying the mix from Gander Mountain. Either way, it's hard to beat!

The Jerky I made tasted like pepper deer jerky and a shot of whiskey in your mouth as you ate it. Laughing

Was pretty good actually! Smile

I make my deer jerky out of elk. I have some trays which I got at Cabelas and I put everything in the oven at the lowest setting. It takes 8-12 hours this way. I have tried several different jerky marinades, but I still prefer Lawry's meat marinade. I have a slicer that really works. I wish I could remember where I got it. It's just a piece of wood with a raised lip and a slicing knife.

I was gonna ask the same question...

Wouldn't that make it elk jerky?

Unless the elk ATE the deer...
