I belong to the "Graciously Seasoned" group. I recently chose my 30-06 not only because it has been around for 100 years; but you can find this ammo in nearly any rural store in the country. The fact that it has taken every game on the North American continent and some game in Africa was another consideration. The 30-06 may not be best round for all applications; but it seems to be the most versatile cartridge ever developed. With the right load you can take small game to moose and big bears. Not to shabby a cartridge for being developed in 1906.

Hi, Aubrey,
Welcome aboard!!! I have owned several '06 rifles and your statements are exactly why I recommend it to any one who is limited to one gun! I also know there are a few others that are great all around weapons, but not exactly the same class.

The .270 and the .30-06 ar both renouned for their versitility. The .30-06 does have a wider range of bullet choices though...
Welcome to this fine site Aubrey...Grab a beer and sit awhile. You might even want to spin a yarn or two...Just remember, we don't lie on this site. Just stretch the truth a bit. That's all...

That's O K Vint2...I just said that just to keep the .270 fans from jumpin' all over me...I'm really .30-06 fan besides my "Ol' Jack Handle".

If God wanted me to fly, he....Wrong one...Try again...For my short range work you can't beat .30-30 in Winchester or [cough] Marlin [choke]. For my long range work I have found that My Browning A-Bolt .30-06 does just fine. I do not plan to ever shoot game out past 400 yards anyway. At least not with a 3 X 9 scope Sooo...In a nutshell the answer is YES...

L O L...The deer and elk that I have taken over the years have all been under 100 yards and as short as 4 yards. And no it wasn't from a tree stand. I tracked and stalked him for most of a day and out smarted him. Well worth it...And you are right. I use the .30-06 for those heavier game animals. But just incase someone wants me to hunt small game from a distance the Browning will do...
